MSFS Pilot Parked at an Airport

This sim also uses a lot of power on the " homepage " , if I want to leave the sim running I go into the Graphics page and just slide the “Render Scaling” down to 30% and the GPU & CPU begin to cool off.

I use the led’s on the side of the GPU and the Aorus app.

The GPU usage is in the Orange section when the game is doing nothing?
drops into Green by lowering Render.

The thing is, on the Homepage, the sim is rendering the Aircraft in the Hangar. If the sim wants to save resources while doing nothing, they need to remove the hangar background and the hangar function will have to use a loading screen like starting a new flight.

Ah! I see, In the interest of saving the planet I would rather have a homepage without the hanger, I don’t think viewing aircraft in the hanger is used a lot, I rarely go in there, since the sim came out I would say no more than 20 times have I used the hanger.

So the higher spec of your PC, the less “ramp up” will be required for the image in the Hanger.

It’s not a big deal, but lower spec PC Fans will go into overdrive in the menu, I used the 3700 Wraith Prism fan and it was so noisy in the menu it sharp got the boot. New Fuma 2 is silent on the menu.

If you’re talking about an electric clothes dryer, then yes, it’s far less - but those don’t run full time. But a full afternoon of running 500 watts of gaming computer can easily be 10x higher in power consumption compared to a refrigerator, which might run only 20% of the time and only at 250 watts or less when running. The only other appliance that could be said to run 24/7 (but generally doesn’t) is the AC, which would be 3000-4000 watts when running, but that’s still not really 24/7 unless you’re trying to keep your home below 60°F in the middle of summer.

I use the hangar quite often, especially when I just installed a new livery. I need to make sure the livery has no issues rendering in the hangar, before committing to spend 5 minutes on the loading screen only for the sim to either CTD or has defects on the livery because of corrupted texture or incorrect structuring.

I stand corrected, I only check that it has been tested on the latest update, may well check it properly in the future, I only use Flightsim.to for liveries.

Switch MP off, you don’t need it unless flying with friends.People do all kinds of crazy stuff anyway. Taking off in your face during your landing with ATC permission and whatnot. Up the AI traffic and you are good to go.

One legitimate reason for a user to just be sitting parked at a airport for an extended period of time is that they are doing scenery development. I certainly do that.
The plane will stay out while in developer mode we can actually go elsewhere and edit/add objects etc.

If you are doing scenery development and parking on a runway, why haven’t you turned multiplayer off?

why should i?
dont get me wrong i get its ‘unrealistic’ and may bother some people but its a MP Game and they/we have just as much right to sit there as you do to use Your Game however you wish
some testing has to be done in mp, even for just scenery
even if thats not the case there are settings to visually remove players, if you dont want to see randoms play in Group Mode, thats what its for

devs are not the same as trolls which we likely Also have, lets not try to make them out to be because you expect them to conform to some kind of IRL protocal, that will never happen in a video game (i do always tend to load into a parking spot rather than a runway, but thats not my point here)

i Never play in offline mode (other than when the game bounces me in and out :P), i Dont Ever change my settings if i dont have to
the game takes long enough to load into as it is, i dont need yet Another thing to remember and ‘setup’ to get ready for a flight or to get ready for developing something

to put this in simple terms, its Not up to the other players to resolve the issue here, its up to the game and the settings

Or just turn off name plate, so you don’t notice things like this.

Why should you turn off multiplayer when you are not playing, but developing scenery? Do you really need an answer to that? For much the same reason you shouldn’t picnic in the pitch during a football match.

Of course this forum is to help people work round problems with the sim.Wjay else could it be for?

My flightsim PC isn’t used for anything else. It is powered through a power monitor. It typically uses around 600 watts when running (more at times, less at other times).

If that PC is off, my whole house uses around 300 watts, unless the washing machine is running. (The heating is mains gas).

So when I’m running MSFS, that triples my household electricity consumption. Whether that makes an appreciable difference to the bills depends on how much I run it.

When I’m doing scenery, I park in a parking spot way off the runway. I won’t spawn into an active runway and stay camped out there for an hour.
I’m not in anyone else’s way.

if its a football match on MY PC in MY Living Room using a Game I PAYED FOR then i will sit in the MENU or ON THE FIELD ALL DAY LONG IF I WISH

please Stop trying to make or compare something people might do in a VIDEO GAME out to be an IRL insult of some kind, its plain Silly and will only lead to Your frustration when they fail to bow to Your idea of some kind of false propriety

edit:
the game has settings You can change if that bothers you
its just as much Your game as well, i get that
but if your expecting others to ‘play your way’ … its just not very likely

Exactly! Anyone who is worried about a computer wasting electricity must be Scrooge McDuck. It is not even 30 cents a day (3 cents a kilowatt hour here). Your utility bill has the rate, do the math!

i guess you didnt read my follow up answer there, a pc uses a LOT more electricity than an led lightbulb

up to SIXTY TIMES AS MUCH making that “$2 bucks” a fair amount
its also a mistake to assume Everyone is in a similar financial situation as yourself, i live on a fixed income from over 15 years ago (forced medical retirement) so while an extra 10-15 bucks a month (about what most pc’s runs per month when running all day like mine does) it may not seem like much to you but it can be the diff in me having any extra money at all or not
i literally wait untill all my bills are paid and groceries are bought before i can even look at say … buying a new msfs aircraft or going out to dinner with my wife or w/e - i usually Dont have money to so every month
so yea i count those ‘pennies’ thank you very much

Making computers energy-frugal was never about saving the user a few pence. It was about saving the planet, even back in the 1980s and 90s.

I mean, think how many computers there are in the world…

I’ve done this when familiarizing myself with an airplane, doing startup checklists or learning the navigation systems. But I’d guess I’d not show in MP if I have it turned off.

I must admit I no longer want to see others as the mix of serious simmer/flyer with pure gamer/non serious flyer doesnt really work for me.
So now it is just me and real traffic.
