MSFS Pop Out Panel Manager (with Touch Panel Support)

The pop out function works ok. I use VirtualFly G1000 with screens 1024x768 pics. and a C172. But it seems to be unpossible to avoid the two vertical bars on each side. Full screen mode is selected, but if I try to adjust the width (expand) then the height also expands in the corresponding ratio.
Is it a solution?
If I use the original FS2020 method for pop out G1000 sreens without the MSFS pop out panel manager, it is no problem to adjust the width. I adjust the width after the PFD/MFD has placed itself in the screen and press Alt+Enter at the end. But of course I have to do this adjustment each time I start up the C172 for a new flight.

Thank you for reporting the issue regarding full screen mode black bars. I’ve implemented a fix and a download is available at the link below (version 4.0.1 beta). I will keep updating this beta for the next couple weeks as v4.0 feedbacks and bug reports comes in. I will release official version 4.0.1 once enough fixes are implemented. This way, you all do not have to keep updating the app if you do not need the most up-to-date bug fixes of added features.

Version 4.0.1 beta

I couldn’t believe I wasn’t using this deployment strategy for all this time with a stable and development release (similar to FlyByWire). LOL

Feature Request Feedback:

The onscreen status showing pop out progress is very useful when setting up or troubleshooting, but would it be possible to have a settings option to enable/disable it because when everything is up and running correctly I would prefer it to be hidden except when I want to test some changes?

Why not simply minimize to the taskbar ?

Got few minutes on my hand tonight and as requested by AviatorDown8227, feature for hiding pop out progress messages has been added to v4.0.1 beta. In POPM, please go to preferences => pop out settings => enable pop out progress messages, and disable this setting to hide the messages.

Thank you very much

@flyinggunny Minimizing the popout manager app does not hide the popout progress window, therefore my request, thankfully now addressed by Stanley.

OK. I misunderstood to which display you were referring. That small progress display is visible only during the pop out. It disappears automatically on completion.

Yes I know that obviously, but I asked for an option for it not to display at all and Stanley kindly obliged.

An added bonus is that the popout process appears to be a bit quicker when it is disabled :+1:

I have installed the version 4.0.1 beta in the computer and tested it for the black vertical bars on the sides. But I could not see any difference from the former version 4.0.0. Nothing happens when selecting Full screen mode and the ability of adjusting fades out grey (no adjustment possible). Alt+enter expands the PFD/MFD to full size, but the pixels are not adjusted at the same time. So if I pop out the panels once more, the panel have the size it had before pressing Alt+Enter.

Hi GarishBark55555,

Can you explain further about what do you mean by nothing happen when you select ā€œFull screen modeā€? First, when you select full screen mode, all adjustments are greyed out since the dimensions of the panel should not be changed. The fix in version 4.0.1 is the numbers will not update anymore when panel expands to full screen (which was the bug before).

I’ve run multiple tests and I’m not able to reproduce your issue and the test that I ran is as followed:

  1. Create a profile and select PFD on C172.
  2. Pop it out, move it to a 1024x768 display (to the center of the display), resize it (I used pop out window dimension of 527x438, you can set it manually for width and height in POPM) so it does not have black bar on either side.
  3. Select ā€œfull screen modeā€ for this panel. The panel should now expand to full screen and no black bars if the aspect ratio is set correctly.
  4. Perform one final test by clicking ā€œStart Pop Outā€ once again. The PFD panel should close, then pop out again into a window, then expand to full size.
  5. Also, you should not be manually pressing Alt-Enter since it is a toggle command instead of an individual on/off command. This will mess up either MSFS or POPM.

Please try to run the above scenario and report back. Maybe something is conflicting with POPM operations? Also, would you please double check POPM exe by right clicking it to make sure it is version 4.0.1 or redownload from my github?

Hi,
I created a new profile and selected PFD in the C172 and I adjusted it so it was no black bars on the side. Then I moved the PFD in the 1024x768 disply. I selected Full screen mode. But nothing happened, the panel did not expand and had the same size and had also the title bar. For info: When I use Alt+Enter in the FS2020 mode (no pop out man) and I have adjusted the panel to have no black bars, the panel expands to full and the title bar is away as well.

I can adjust the panel to have no black sidebars and adjust the panel to fill the screen completely, but the title bar is then visible at the bottom of the main screen. It seems that I have to have either black sidebars or title bar of the PFD.
I have checked and the version is 4.0.1

Looks like POPM somehow failed to send Alt-Enter command to the game on your system. Just curious, after you configure the PFD, you did click Start Pop Out to pop out the panel? This is the only way POPM can track the panel and send commands for the panel. If so, I’m baffled why your PFD pop out failed to expand to full screen.

Also, hide title bar will not work for your PFD since Asobo uses client area + title bar area of the window to calculate the panel’s aspect ratio. They should have use just client area only (not the title bar) to calculate the aspect ratio. Hiding title bar will expand the panel’s content to full window size and messed up the ratio.

Hi all,

Currently working on an Air Manager / Nvidia 4000 series card specific issue regarding DLSS3 frame generation where frame generation only works on the main monitor when in focus Description. It looks like it is an MSFS issue and not an Nvidia issue.

Here is the issue, when using Air Manager on a 2nd monitor and main game monitor has frame generation on, as soon as I touch the Air Manager monitor, the game lost focus and frame generation gets disable. The only way to reenable it is to use my mouse to click on the main monitor again to set focus on MSFS.

For example, I’ve 25 FPS on LAX with traffic taking off (a little stuttery), with frame generation enabled, I’ll have about 50FPS which is extremely smooth for take off. But as soon as I touch Air Manager monitor to say adjust the heading knob, frame generation got disable immediately and I’m down to 25FPS for take off. I will then need to use my mouse to click on main monitor to reenable frame gen again. This back and forth monitor focus issue just kills the immersion.

So, I’m adding a new feature to POPM that you can specify an entire monitor (my setup has 4 monitors) to detect touch and it uses the same touch refocus logic to set focus back to the game window. This way, after I touch Air Manager monitor to adjust flight control (FPS goes down for a split second) and a second later, refocus kicks in and FPS goes right back up. You can also use this feature standalone if you don’t need any pop out for your aircraft. Maybe Asobo will fix this issue in SU13!

Please let me know if you’ve experienced this issue. I’m currently in testing phase of this feature and will roll it out to v4.0.1 beta in the next couple days. Please stay tune since I’ve few more things to figure out, for example, mixing touch-enable pop out panel and Air Manager panel on the same monitor.

Not sure if it has been asked before, but does v4 support the possibility of a far-fetched scenario such as:

  1. set up a custom camera view
  2. select a set of displays to popout
  3. pop them out to a secondary monitor to get them out of the way
  4. then set a second custom camera view, to grab displays which couldn’t be grabbed by the first camera
  5. append a few more displays to the list and pop them out too
  6. save the profile so next time everything will pop out automatically (assuming somewhere in the middle, the addon will change camera view)

Other than that, I tried v4 today for the very first time and it was beyond amazing. Much improved over the previous version (which was excellent anyway). This is truly a must have addon. Thank you!

I have seen this issue with frame generation and pop outs. I actually made a button on my stream deck that effectively mouse clicks on the main monitor to get around it. Because of that and the fact that frame generation only works on the main monitor (I have three in a 180 degree surround), I quit using frame generation. If you come up with a fix for the pop outs, I’ll definitely give it a try!

Thanks for your awesome POPM program btw!!

Hi,
Yes I did click Start Pop Out to pop out the panel after having configured the PFD.
I hope you can figure this out. Thanks.

Can’t seem to confirm this Pop Out Panel Manager with touch will work with the CDU in the CJ4 ??

Hi Zeppos,

Currently POPM configures custom camera view at the application instead at panel level, your requirement will require a major change in how POPM works. But I can see as more users adopt multi-screens cockpit, a single camera view may not be enough. For example, on FBW A320, if an user flies these aircraft on 3 screens, the EFB is on the left screen and a co-pilot PFD/MFD is on the screen to the right, defining and popping out all panels at the same time may not be possible even when zooming out the cockpit all the way.

The challenge technically is to restructure POPM architecture to assign camera view definition to pop out panels and to create a seamless user interface to manage these panels. I’ll definitely look into your suggestion and see if I can achieve what you need without reinventing the entire POPM application.

Hi PiperPilot3604,

Currently there is a confirmed issue with CJ4 (maybe since AAU2) that pop out mechanism within MSFS does not work consistently or correctly even without POPM, and especially the FMC/CDU panel. I’m not 100% sure is it MSFS only or because conflicts with 3rd party community plugins. I’m still investigating this issue for another user.
