MSFS + Quest 3 Blurry Peripheral graphics

Hey guys,

so i in the last couple of weeks i tried to tweak my settings in Virtual Desktop and MSFS 2024 to get a smooth experience in VR. Unfortunately, when i fly with the helicopter and look out of the window to look down on the ground, let’s say near a mountain, the graphics is quite blurry. As i am mostly playing rescue missions where you have to search people somewhere, this becomes quite hard as i cannot see clearly to the ground since the bluriness.

My PC setup:
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
ASUS RTX 5070 Ti, 16GB, OC
Crucial Ballistix 2x32GB, DDR4-3600, CL16-18-18-38
Samsung 990 Pro, M.2, 2TB
MSI MPG B550 Gaming Edge Wifi
Focus GX 850W

VR setup:
Meta Quest 3 512GB

Connection with PC:
Wireless via Router (TP-Link Archer AXE75 Wifi 6e)
Headset is connected via Wifi 6e

Virtual desktop settings:

MSFS 2024 VR Graphics:

Graphics when flying:

So my question to you is, if there is anything i can adjust in order to get:

  1. more clear instruments in VR because currently i have to go quite close in order to get a clear and sharp instrument reading
  2. better visuals when flying over forest so that i can see a sharper surface
  3. better peripheral quality

So i know if i want perfect graphical quality, i need a high end system with 5090 etc. but i am just asking if i can adjust anything to my current setup that i can improve my visual graphics and sharpness.

I already watched the videos from VR Flight Sim Guy but somehow i still get blurry trees and ground surfaces when flying..

Many thanks for the support.

When flying low and fast over the trees I also often see ghosting, not sure if this is new though.

I see you limit the frame rate to 45, are you actually reaching that FPS in the game? Also, any reason you do not enable SSW?

I’m running a 9800X3D with a 4070 Ti Super, also flying helicopters, I limit the frame rate to 36, set the Quest 3 to 72 and enable SSW, and getting stable 72 with DLAA and foveated rendering set to 50 (which is hardly noticeable).

I also run at 72 Hz with SSW and hope for 36FPS solid with a 9800X3D+RTX5080. I still use H.264+ codec in Virtual Desktop along with adjustable bitrate. It is hard to measure “clarity” but I do feel that the instruments are quite clear. The outside world is “pretty clear” when hovering helicopters.

many thanks @pvaiko1203 and @SearBreak225638 for the reply.
Can you also share your graphic settings please?

In your sim vr settings turn your pre caching to high instead of ultra, turn sharpening up to 100.

The blurring on the sides is likely from your foveated rendering settings. Either turn your head more and keep your eyes centered, put foveated rendering scale back to default 50 or turn it off.

I have almost the same setup. Switch to 200 mbits for streaming, you don’t care for a few more ms latency in a flight sim. Also increase the tlod to around 150. And try to disable foveated rendering. I still get a very good framerate with a 5080 and DLSS 4.5, close to you.

thanks for the replies!

what is like a good latency value?
So i tried couple of settings today and it seems as if the DLSS Balanced/Quality does have an impact on the visual quality in a negative way. DLSS with DLAA mode gives me a lot of ghosting when i turn on the spot with the helicopter.

I then switched to TAA mode with 140 render scaling and now it is much sharper.
Foveated rendering is set to 40 but it is clear that in the outer regions the quality becomes blurry because of this.

I anyway meant the visual quality in the center of the screen.

I found that if I set SSW to Always then there is absolutely no ghosting. SSW Automatic still causes ghosting.

Same here, always on gives less issues and stuttering too.

  • I would set 72FPS in VD limited to 36-37 in FS2024.

  • Set SSW as “Always Enabled” in VD

  • Turn up VD sharpening to 100%

  • keep 30-40 FidelityFX sharpening in the game

  • If you have an AXE75 router you should go with H264+ at 500mbit with no issues. It gives the most clarity for me

Are you using the latest DLSS version? And what preset are you using? Use preset K for DLSS quality/balanced or preset M for Performance/Ultra Performance

  • Snapgragon super resolution is almost useless in godlike mode. it can make the outside world a bit sharper but blurrier cockpit instruments. i keep this off

Actually i dont know where i can see the Nvidia preset values. I just have the Nvidia App.
Can you tell me where i can find these values?

I use DLSS Swapper. I know that you can also change presets on Nvidia APP but i keep using swapper

Then i will also get this tool. Will this actually impact the actual performance when using the MSFS 2024 while this tool is open or can i close it once everything is set up?

It just updates the DLSS version for the games you want, and also set the preset. Once done, there is no need to have it opened or in background

Interesting, H264+ @ 500 is better than AV1 @ 200mbits? That’s strange. Plus it’s only 8 bits per color I think, color banding must be annoying in some scenes?
