Brief description of the issue:
I reinstalled my windows10 from scratch and off course I reinstalled msfs2020 too. Now the strange thing was it only had 77gb to download the content. And now when I start up, it checks for other updates (but finds none) and half way on the loading screen it shuts down. What can I do?
(I never had that problem before with the same pc, I played the sim for a year no without problems)
Provide Screenshot(s)/video(s) of the issue encountered: there is nothing to show, first the loading screen, and half way it just shuts down the program
Detail steps to reproduce the issue encountered:
I just start up the sim and it shuts down while loading. It just checks for updates but there aren’t any according to the program.
Build Version # when you first started experiencing this issue: I guess the last version as I formatted my pc and stated with a clean install of windows and updated it to the latest version. Also a clean install of msfs.
Are you on the Steam or Microsoft Store version?
Ms store

You aren’t specific of where it’s dumping to desk, but if it’s right after the Microsoft/Asobo copyright text and just before you see the “set your experience” screens, disable your network connection and give it a try.
If this lets it load the rest of the way, once it loads to the main menu, enable the network connection again. It should load normally after that.
Could be a bug or still could be your internet connection. The internet is just a string of point to point connections like a chain. The link you connect to may be fine but there could be something going on farther down the line. Or it could be the bing servers are overloaded or having issues.
At any rate, you might want to start your own thread or join an existing one appropriate to your issue. This thread is for a different issue and just by the title, someone who might be able to help you might miss your post.
You might have to go to the windows store app and then either select to repair, and then if that doesn’t work select to reset. That is, if you are using the windows store version.
Did you by chance run a disk cleanup at some point after starting the installation process for MSFS?
Or further, use a program like wise disk cleaner opting to use the advanced cleanup methods?
Either or, it has been my experience that by cleaning up (delivery optimization files) and (downloaded installation files) can cause this exact issue where you launch the game. It will check for updates and then the next screen where you see Paris and the circle spinning in the lower right hand corner, the game will just close.
Also, search event viewer for any errors related to the MSFS application.
As a user of MSFS since it came on a 5 inch floppy desk allow me to say how fed up with this latest version. Crashes to desktop on start up and I wish I could get my money back for it and the useless add-ons.
It loads the check for updates fine and then it goes through to the loading screen and half way the blue bar it just shuts down and no, network hasn’t been the trick
That is also what I did. I did a repair in the advanced setting of the app and the only thing it does when starting up is downloading the content again but after that just the same thing happens.
There is one tip that I am not able to do, excluding the app from windows defender and virus protection.
When I click the exclude button, then it asks me a path what I want to exclude but I do not know what folder or where the folder is (except for the community folder then) or I also don’t know where the folder is that holds my .exe file.
With it crashing in a different part of the load sequence, that’s not surprising. I got lucky that my ctds were fixable with just a load without networking. Hopefully yours ends up easy too. Still is a pain though. Good luck!
This just happened to me and happened when the last update was released too.
Find your ROLLINGCACHE.CCC and, if you’ve manually cached any scenery, the MANUALCACHE.CCC files and delete them.
OH NO! But what about my cache? I think you’ll have to cache it again. Last time I thought about reinstating them after the upgrade but to be honest, after fixing computers all day long I can’t really be bothered to spend ages fixing my own.
mine seems to have the same problem, disconnect network and it works in offline mode, I can reconnect network and update anything in the content manager but if I shut down I have to disconnect the network again - and it doesn’t load my license, so the planes I actually want to fly just aren’t there - going to try deleting the cache files and see if that works
