The sim will not start today. I did add ORBX England North. When i followed the installation path …/LocalCache/Packages, the Packages folder was empty. I believe that is where MSFS.exe is supposed to be. If so, it is gone.
Do I have to reinstall the entire thing? I can save the Community folder and the Official folder, but what else would I have to reinstall? For instance, add on aircraft.
I would say yes. Has happened to me before! Maybe others know a way not to though.
I don’t think the exe is supposed to be in the packages folder. It’s also possible to change the packages path. I don’t know if you did that or not.
Have the same issue today. After doing daily flights and even one this morning, the sim would not start up anymore
After a complete uninstall, the flightsim would not even reinstall (Store version here)
Resetting the store solved the problem for me.
Downloading again now.
It is a long shot of course, but maybe it helps
My Community and Official folders are in M:/MSFS. If I reinstall MSFS, do I have to move them again to that location or will the new install recognize where they are?
After you install and run the Flight Simulator from the MS Store or Xbox app then you will be able to click on (and choose) the packages path near the bottom right before the packages download process, and basically skip it. I believe this information is in the topic I linked above.
OK. Should I uninstall MSFS before reinstalling or install over the old one?
I am using the Steam version so I’m not really familiar with how the MS Store version uninstalls, or whether or not it is really necessary. Not knowing more, I would rename the folder on your M drive before uninstalling just in case, then rename it back afterward. It also might be a good idea to backup profile data, though it should be saved in the cloud already.
Right. I forgot to mention that I had installed AIG, too. It is in the Community folder. Should it not be there?
You could just rename the Community folder which would prevent the sim from loading any addons until you get everything set up the way you want. You might even want to move the Community folder out of the packages directory for extra safety, so the exe can’t touch it.
I’ve copied both Community and Official away so I can replace whatever MSFS puts there.
Is it not just the servers down? I wouldn’t do any un-installing yet, I couldn’t get on yesterday, asking for disk? … what’s a disk?
(Old man voice) Back in my day, we had to carry these things around via sneakernet, and worry about spreading boot sector viruses…
I can find the .exe file in WindowsApps, but when I try to run it I get a message that th at the file cannot be accessed by the system.
Is here any way to save my settings for throttle, yoke, keyboard, etc. if I have to reinstall? Love to know why MSFS took it upon itself to stop working. Another thread just below on same subject.
I think they are saved in the cloud, but I’m not sure, as I am on the Steam version. Pinging @TheSevenflyer who probably knows how to do this with the MS Store version.
They are stored in the cloud as well, but you can keep a copy of your current settings.
They are located in “SystemAppData” folder, “WGS”.
Save that folder, if the cloud doesn’t restore them automatically, you can replace the new one created with that.
The mysteries of MSFS continue. I put Microsoft Flight Simulator in the taskbar search box, pressed enter…and the sim started as normal. The start icon is also back. No idea why this happened. Thanks for the help anyway.
That’s good. Thanks for the update and thanks @TheSevenflyer for sharing those details.
