Msfs wont run at all on my PC now?

My flight sim is dead.

It wont get past the loading screen no matter what I try.

I have deleted the community folder contents, tried moving it to another drive etc, all kinds of tricks.

Now I have resorted to deleting it, and a complete re-install that takes $$$ and hours of downloading.

Guess what ?

No show.

I’m done with this ■■■■. Every time I boot it, I keep my fingers crossed it will load and run.

That is 1980’s C64, Amiga ‘Guru Error’. Not a 2023 program.

What errors does it show, did you reinstall windows…what are your specs

A reinstall seldom helps.
If you don’t get it to run, send me a PM.

Scott

Contrary to a unpopular belief I had the same issue a window reinstall and a reinstall of the ms store and DRM helps too

The first problem is, it boots, I get the Asobo screens, then the ‘Checking for Updates’ screen.

It then sits there for around 20 minutes, then it finally starts the installation. It gets to around 95% and just sits there.

I am running a i7, 32Gb, Nvidia 2060, 1tb total drive space (across 2 drives).

I am at my wits end.

Never had an issue before, and all I did was turn off a working sim, fired it up the next day and … Pants

I had this issue a few updates ago, closed every time the splash screen disappeared.

Check in PC setting > Gaming > Xbox Networking

Whenever I ran the ‘fix it’ option in there it started working regardless of whether the check came back ok

It might be slow server response time or the drm being a pain,do the things I said above

There are two directories you can clear out that will recreate themselves again when you start. This would be a shortcut to reinstalling. Unfortunately, I can recall them. When you reinstall the sim, you have to clear out your C:\users\you\appdata folder for MSFS (roaming or local depending on your purchase). This is where your content goes, and likely there’s something in there that’s not compiling.

Can you be more specific on how much drive space is on each drive and which one you are trying to install MSFS on?

Try removing scenery indexes from your community folder , it will reinstall once you boot up msfs. See if that helps.

I have a 500Gb SSD internal on my PC and a seperate 500Gb SSD via USB connection.

One is obviously drive C:\ the external is drive F:\ The drive MSFS was on (drive C:) had about 50Gb space left when the problem started.

What is also annoying is that I have tried to move msfs over to my empty external F: drive, but it won’t let me and now insists on re-installing to C: drive as I re-install everything. But that’s a seperate issue.

Did you try to change the path when it prompts you to install? That TextBox is editable

You may want to check out minimum disk space requirements for MSFS as I don’t think you have enough. Even if you completed the installation successfully but only had 50GB left then I would say you would not have enough for any addons or future updates. Your plan to install across 2x500GB drives would work however it seems you don’t have enough space on drive c:.

While you can certainly install MSFS on at least a 1TB drive - I would recommend 2TB. SSD/Nvme drives are very cheap these days so I would not try to get by on the minimum disk space requirements.

Edit: Btw, even though I have MSFS installed on drive D:, the community folder with any addons (mine are ~50GB) is still put on drive c: by the installer so you might want to factor that in if you will be installing across 2 drives.

That makes great sense, thanks.

I’ll check out some higher capacity drives.

Cheers

So anyone who sims on msfs is a gamer,MSFS is the only sim that can actually model thermals half decently,it feels like a real thermal when I’m flying and I’m a glider, I had a irl 737 pilot fly the PMDG post aau2 and it was fine……

My sim experience goes back to FS-95, and it was more stable then than MSFS is today, just look at all the topics/headings on the NEW page. YES, the PMDG 737 is a marvel, but, for me, (forum for PMDG-MSFS-several dozen issues present there) I could not get the hydraulic system to come out of fault. It refused to start, failures set to OFF, all maintenance Performed. So you tell me. Got real tired of dealing with “Something every startup” and now not using it. MY Choice. But my experience is happening by lots of others, and many people have stepped away from this one. I’m not sure ever coming back just based on my experienced.

Hmmm, Project lead for Workstation 2000 role out in a company of 3500, beta tested W95/98SE for MS. Built and serviced PC for over 35 years, so it’s not my tech skills, if I know it’s not me, it must be the sim.

Yes, but it didn’t give me the option. Just C: drive

In my humble opinion the “I been using computers for (xx) amounts of years annoys me, your not better than anyone else…the 737 works fine for thousands and hundreds of people I been day 1 pmdg

That’s right you don’t get the option you have to type it in.

For example I changed the C: to G: to install on my G drive
