MSFS2020 continues to be a disappointment with major city updates

Just came back from a two week trip to Taipei. Haven’t played MSFS for a while so I thought, I know, I’ll load up Taipei and have a fly around.

Opened MSFS, loaded some updates (haven’t played in 6 months or more), flew a couple of circuits around my local airstrip, and then started a new flight taking off from Taipei.

Want to guess the result?

Too easy really isn’t it.

CTD for any flight taking off from either Taipei airport.

In the end I picked an airport in eastern Taiwan and flew to Taipei. Guess what I see?

No photogrammetry. No Taipei 101. Just the Grand Hotel and the Kai Shek memorial.

Seriously?

Five years after the game was released they still haven’t implemented photogrammetry for some of the world’s major capital cities!

No model for the Taipei 101, which was on completion the tallest building in the world!

I find that absolutely ridiculous.

I found the free Orbx Taipei and installed that, which for some reason also seemed to fix the CTD, and it’s pretty nice, but it’s only a small part of the Xinyi district so the rest of Taipei still looks like pants.

Considering how much I paid for MSFS2020, the neverending and ongoing problems it’s had since release, and the glaring gaps in content, and I have to conclude that the return on investment has not been good at all.

Please do better.

I know it is disappointing to have a city you love, or live in, not represented well in FS2020 but I can understand that the Asobo team can’t do every city in the world (even big cities) and all the other updates, especially now since they are probably devoting the majority of their time to FS2024. This is unfortunate because if 2024 had not been relerased (it sure wasn’t really needed as far as us simmers go and didn’t offer anything except what I call “game-like” features) more improvements/updates to 2020 would have occured. 5 years after release, and now not the latest sim, we are lucky to get any updates to FS2020. At least there are many good addons like you found for Taipei.

We all use this sim for enjoyment, including some who are or wish to be real world pilots. But Asobo, although I believe they love what they do, are making a living from it and their hands are tied to MS.

I just pick cities/airports that are good in FS2020, whether default or addon, and enjoy it a lot. When I think of what the older flight sims looked like, how can I complain about FS2020? I would have paid twice as much, easily, after coming from FSX.

As far as CTD’s, that should not happen and nobody really knows why they do. Many, many users including myself have had no CTD’s at all. This is asumming a fairly decent computer/system.

The good news is that there have been updates still, not all of them great of course, so some attention is still being given to 2020.
