PC Version - Has anyone noticed you cannot hear the engines spool up inside the cockpit? In external view the sounds seem the same/realistic, but I can barely hear them inside the cockpit. (engine power is much greater)
I have noticed that too, but Iâm on XBOX. I tohught that was on my end
Have you sat in a C-17 and listened to the engines spool up? These are turbofans after all, and the cockpit is pretty far in front of the engines and above them.
No I havenât, but thank you for bringing that up. If you have firsthand experience and what we have now is 100% realistic, congratulations, this is what we all strive for in a simulation. My problem is that for over a year, right or wrong, the engine sound has been a certain consistent level, and now after an update it is a complete 180 the opposite. I canât find engine sound anywhere in the update notes, nor can I find anyone complaining about it not being realistic up until now. Please educate me some more, I know nothing about this game nor planes in general and I am always open to feedback.
No changes have been made to the sounds. However, performance optimizations were made to the mixing as it was resulting in voice starvation and other sound problems to console users. Iâd need you to specify if the issue youâre experiencing occurs on PC or Xbox to log it for further investigation.
Have you checked if you have, I think itâs called âheadphones simulationâ, on? I usually have it on and it decreases engine sounds by quite a lot.
Thank you for asking. No, my headphone simulation was turned off, and my settings were all âdefaultâ which I have never changed from the beginning.
Do you have any updates to the engine sound issues? Just curious.
Who, me? No. I was just wondering if you had a basis for your comment, or if you were just asking if itâs at the correct volume. I will say when I sit in the front of an airliner, and not in the even more insulated cockpit, I canât say the engines make a lot of noise when theyâre spooling up for me. Not that Iâm saying youâre wrong. But that would be a good comparison. And, as a pilot, youâd typically also have your headphones on, too, making it even quieter.
Do those gauges work?
Yes thereâs definitely something wrong with that instrument background texture - Win11 Steam version in 4K (but for me not as bad as in your screenshot):
I found what it seems to be bug/issue regarding latest C-17 version/update (that came with Sim Update 5) or at least if it was present before then I wasnât aware of it:
- ADF tune/stations are returning the distance measure to the ADF beacon/station (besides direction/bearing). As far as I know, this shouldnât be possible as ADF doesnât give range (only direction/bearing).
Below, Iâll add a couple of screenshots where two ADF stations are tuned, in the first one a ADF station called ZZR (near Trenton, Ontario) with the frequency of 317.00 and the second screenshot has not only the previously tuned ZZR ADF station on ADF1 but also another ADF station called YTR (frequency 215.00) tuned on ADF2 and they both show range (besides direction/bearing). I also tested with other ADF stations on other locations with the exact same result.
Most likely an streaming issue/incomplete stream, or related to graphic settings/memory. As shown below, the texture full resolution is significantly higher. MSFS will dynamically adjust texture resolution to save memory, though.
These are simulated, yes.
Depends - if the ADF station has a DME, distance will return as well. These are directly pulled from MSFS Simulator variables.
take off speeds still donât work, vnav.. still doesnât work, also now the contrail is a single contrail in the center of the plane. a whole bunch of the gauges.. poor resolution. Itâs been over a year.. can we get BASIC things FIXED⊠PLEASE??
I donât have any of the issues you mention running the latest update
I think youâre confusing ADF with VOR.
Some VOR stations donât have a DME associated and as such will only provide direction/bearing. Other VOR stations do have DME associated as therefore will provide both direction/bearing and range. And there are also standalone DMEâs which will only provide range (and not direction/bearing).
But youâll never have an ADF associated with DME and hereâs why:
VOR is tuned in the MHz frequencies, ranging from 108.0 MHz to 117.95 MHz, basically the same as DME. Both VOR and DME operate in the Very High Frequency (VHF) range. In the C-17 (and not only) VORâs or DMEâs are tuned using the NAV1 or NAV2 pages.
On the other hand, ADF is tuned in the kHz frequencies, ranging from 190 kHz to 1750 kHz. ADF operates in the Low and Medium frequency bands. In the C-17 (and not only) ADFâs are tuned using the ADF1 or ADF2 pages.
As such, you cannot tune a DME using an ADF radio set/instrument or have a DME associated with ADF because they use completely different frequencies and radio sets.
Another thing not fixed.. whatever is going on with engine one that makes the plane pull to the left⊠this has been there since day one..
Performance calculations work on this latest update V1.3.2
VNAV has not been integrated on this aircraft yet.
This is a loading/streaming issue. Restarting the flight should fix it.
Can you share images of this? May also be related to streaming/memory.
This was fixed several updates ago. Will take a look again. Beyond the CFD Debug, do you see any effects of this in the performance of the aircraft? Not seeing any significant impact on my side (eg no such pull left, not on Autopilot or manual flight).
