MSFS2024 - GPU stops being utilized sometimes, framerate drops from 70s to single digits

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

Occasionally when doing a walk around I’ve noticed my the game will just seemingly stop using my GPU. Utilization goes to 0 and the GPU fans stop. Framerate drops to maybe 1-5 fps.

Opening the menus by pausing then returning to the sim fixes it briefly but it will often happen again.

Haven’t noticed it while flying so far. Has only happened while using the Robin Cap10 but not sure if it’s aircraft specific

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

Yes

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

Intermittent - 2-3 times out of maybe 15 tries for walkarounds

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Start the Robin Cap 10 cold and dark in free flight and walk around for a bit
  2. GPU use will sometimes stop

What peripherals are you using, if relevant:

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?

[PC, MSFS 2020 Only] Are you using DX11 or DX12?

[PC Only] Many issues may be due to an outdated graphics card. Please state your Graphics Card Driver Manufacturer (NVIDIA, Intel, AMD) and Version:

MSI NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080, latest game ready drivers as of Nov 26 2024

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?

Intel i7-13700k, 64 GB DDR5, 2 TB NVME drive

Are you having VSYNC in game set to “ON”? If so, try to deactivate and see again. I had the same issue. Deactivated VSYNC to test and frames are back. For me, it is no big deal cause I use a framerate limiter and lossless scaling and beeing in Freesync range. But it is worth a try.
