Last night I was flying in the Washington DC area when MSFS2024 suddenly froze as I approached the College Park Maryland airport looking for the University of Maryland next door to the airport. As I approached the airport the program suddenly froze and would not respond. After letting it sit for a while I had to force close the program through task manager because it would not respond. I cleaned the cache, emptied the community folder and disabled the Marketplace add ons that I had in the area and tried to start a new flight from College Park airport. Immediately the program froze again as soon as I loaded the flight and it went into the program on the runway. I have tried different aircraft, approach the area from different directions, everything that I can think of. The MSFS2024 program still keeps freezing whenever I approach the College Park MD area in northern Washington DC or whenever I start a flight at College Park airport. I was wondering if anyone else has been experiencing the same issue or if there was a way to fix this crashes before I report it to Zendesk. Thank you for any help that you can give me with resolving this problem.
In the large majority of cases like this, it is a result of a mod conflict.
If you have any mods of any kind, not just scenery, remove them and see if this is the reason in this instance.
Zendesk will ask you to do that as well, so if you do have any, you should rule that out first.
Thank you for your response but I already did try emptying the community folder, deleting the cache files and disabling all of the add ons from the Marketplace that would be near the region. I didn’t disable add ons that were not nearby like the scenery for Boston Logan Airport or the Panama Canal though because I figured that they would be so far away that they should not be causing crashes in the Washington DC area and because it would be a pain having to reenable everything. Despite disabling the scenery nearby in Marketplace, clearing the Community folder and clearing the cache the sim was still crashing and freezing up at this location.
It doesn’t have to be nearby scenery.
I actually have seen instances of an aircraft causing a conflict with scenery and vice versa.
You can never be sure with addons.
It certainly is a chore to find out.
Putting them back in groups is the easiest way.
Thank you for your help. I did what you suggested and disabled everything, then adding items back one at a time. When I did this, I found that it was the FS Trains North America scenery add on that was causing the simulator to freeze and crash. Interestingly, this seems to be the only area where it is causing the program to crash as I have never had it occur anywhere else. This is a real shame as I really like having the trains in MSFS 2024. Every time I disabled it though the sim freezing went away and every time that I enabled it the freezing up started again so it must be that scenery add on though. It also only seems to be happening with MSFS 2024 and not MSFS 2020. I will have to let the developer know so that they can look into fixing it. At least now I know what was causing it. Thank you again and have a good night.
