Msfs2024 poor vr performance pimax crystal light

Thanks for your answer, but maybe i didn’t expressed very well. DLSS isn’t a Reprojection algorithm, is only a scale algorithm that allow you recreate a big resolution image starting from an image with less resolution to get better performance. My question was about Reprojection, that is an algorithm that create “fake” frames to enhance the smoothness in the headset, for example you can use “smart smoothing” from Pimax, “motion smoothing” from SteamVR, “Reprojection mode” from MSFS ingame setting or noting at all. Which Reprojection option are you using? Because if you don’t use anyone and you capped the fps to half of the refresh rate you should notice judder (double vision) in the cockpit when moving your head

Hi again, well I’m only using DLSS as I stated. No reprojection of any sort. I don’t use Steam VR for MSFS 2024 preferring Pimax Open XR.

If I unlock the half frame rate I actually get about 4 fps more and I can actually switch between TAA and DLSS without a huge difference in fps either. I am using MSFS fixed foveated rendering set to 45% (I think?) which helps as I have the render scale rather high at 1.2 but if I set it to 1 in Pimax Play I get 60fps.

I hope this is helpful.

Just reading this again. I don’t get judder or double vision when I move my head but I do observe a slight motion blur of the instruments. The faster I turn the more pronounced it is. It doesn’t mean I cant read the instruments but it does blur the text on them a little.

A bit of an update on my endless fiddling..

Long story short I disabled msi afterburner, I was using a few uv/oc profiles to keep wattage/temps down and it turns out these were causing bad frame timings.

Now with it disabled (I’ve now uninstalled it and using hwinfo for temps etc) I’m running native resolution with tlod 200, dlss quality preset k, foveated rendering 45 and custom fov 20 vertical the rest at 5. That gives minimal bearable stutters over London at night in the rain in the H145, but smooth out in the sticks where I do the sar missions.

Afterburner was the fps killer for me

Excellent news. I’m so glad you got there. The thing is you keep working a setup and don’t really have anything to measure it against unless someone tells you that there similar rig is running x fps.

I keep tinkering with things every now and then to see if I can improve my setup which tbh I’m really pleased with and my recent attempts during the last week were all negative and I have reverted to my old setup again.

I have to admit tho that my tinkering was also a viability test for the new Dream Air as I am considering ordering one soon.
