MSFS2024 - Terrain precaching not properly sometimes, entire scenery popping in when switching views


ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

In some cases, the terrain precaching is not preventing the game from reloading the entire scenery when switching views.

This was observed in the fixed wing views in the A320 V2. This is reminiscent of a similar problem in MSFS 2020 that immediately preceded the introduction of the Terrain Precaching setting.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

1.Fly the A320 V2 on approach to KLAX, and swap alternating wing view sides, you’ll see almost all the scenery pop in each time.

This is on all settings Ultra, with precaching set to Ultra.

“entire scenery popping in” may likely be from the setting “FPS target” in display settings. To keep performance above the set value it takes photogrammetry, terrain and objects from the view.

I believe what you’re referring to is Dynamic Settings, which offers a target FPS. I have that disabled and everything set to Ultra.

Unless for some reason the sim isn’t respecting that setting value and is forcing it on anyway, which would still be a bug.

However the behaviour of it really reminds of of the issues after SU5 in 2020, before they introduced the terrain precaching value shortly after that, which made me wonder if that isn’t being used properly.
