MSFS24 SU3 - Micro-Freezes

OP, how do we get these ideas of repeatable tests (for example, KPHL ten minute flights and rejected takeoff at KSEA) with performance failures in front of the Devs? Obviously, our “solutions” (turning off major features) are simply temporary workarounds but at least can be tested one at a time in order to find the coding changes required. Certainly the Devs could focus on the coding changes made from SU2 to SU3. The “burps” in performance are easily seen - they are NOT microstutters.

Not sure. I’m closely following the big thread over in: Mainthread loads up more and more and doesn’t recover - Bug Reporting Hub / Install, Performance & Graphics - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums

I managed to fix my freezes and stutters completely now after following the guidance in the post linked above. I also found that Online → Traffic is causing huge issues on my system if set to anything other than “Off”. Copy/paste of steps I have taken to get a smooth sim now with SU3:

That sound tip poster is a genius! Here’s what I’ve done to get my sim smooth with SU3:

  1. Disable ALL sound devices in device manager (I use an Xbox wireless headset over bluetooth)

  2. Set MSFS output to the headset (from default device)

  3. Disable Fenix cabin announcements in the EFB

Those steps gave me a massive improvement in smoothness, no more stutters/freezes and much better photogrammetry too (no melted buildings). One issue that remained was that my test scenario of take off KPHL, circle the city and land back was now running smoothly but the moment I was about 100ft above the runway to land my FPS started to drop massively from a steady 60 until now to 45-50. They didn’t recover after touchdown (they were steady 60 when I took off from the same runway 10 mins earlier).

What I have found fixed this FPS degradation for me was setting Online → Traffic to “Off”. After this I had no more drops, steady 60 FPS after landing. I use BATC for AI Traffic and already have characters, ground equipment, parked and aircraft traffic set to off in the Graphics menu. So this option should only really impact ship traffic. For some reason it seems to cause issues on my systems on anything other than off. With “real time online” I found I get massive stutters/freezes of up to 2 seconds, with “offline” I get the FPS degradation after landing. Off seems to be the only setting that works in SU3. Hope this helps others.

I’m not positive this is related but I thought I’d share what I found. Mind you I’m on Xbox Series X so there’s not a lot of troubleshooting to do. With SU3 I started getting 2 second freezes at 10 second intervals - consistently. Even when sitting idle at an airport for several minutes this is occurring.

Here’s what works for me (and I don’t know why):
When the problem occurs (or even before)
Settings - Graphics
”Reset to defaults”
”Continue”
”Save and back”

That’s it. It fixes the problem for me every time. I can even change all the settings back to where I want them and still no freezes (until I restart the sim, then the problem is back).
I actually found that after I select “Reset to defaults” I can immediately change the settings back to where they were and then click .

The key seems to be in the Xbox “Reset to defaults” graphics settings. I have no idea why.

Again, this is on Xbox X which has limited graphics settings so resetting to defaults is not a time consuming task. I would imagine on PC that resetting to defaults would probably be a big deal.

Most of my testing has been with CowanSim S76 and FlightFX Citation X (regular and lite version) at KDFW and KLAX.

I just thought I’d share in case it helps someone.

(Unfortunately this doesn’t work for me on the first two releases of SU4 beta and I’m having a similar problem)

This continues to be an issue to this day. I am running in 1440 using a 7800xt. The stutters are only occurring now in career mode when moving around the world map.
