Multiplayer/Live Traffic

I haven’t tried either of these but I want to understand how they work aside from any kind of VATSIM collaborative flying. I understand the basics of using something like Vpilot so you show up on VATSIM maps etc, but at the moment I’m more interested in seeing other aircraft within visual range and possibly communicating, with map use confined to the MSFS internal ( GPS ) map or something like LittleNavMap.
Tuning to the same radio frequency to communicate would be more realistic, although I’ve found Discord voice to work well if the other pilot (s) are on the same Discord.
Lastly, MSFS server in use – this is something I hadn’t considered in pursuing collaborative flying, but yesterday I was flying with a guy from the East Coast and we were both using MSFS western US server. His latency was considerably higher which I think caused him some flying problems.
