I made this topic once, it was merged into another topic, and then that one was closed with a note to open a new topic for improvement and feature updates. So here it is again. Please don’t close or merge this.
The multi screen compatibility released in SU10 is awesome, my home cockpit has never looked so good. I fly airliners with it, and set the side TVs at 45 degrees from the front TV. Having the correct perspective out the side windows with good fps is amazing. The setup is easy also in the options menu. Nice job Asobo.
The one thing missing that would be extremely helpful is the option for you to ‘decouple’ the viewpoint in each new window you add from the main simulator window’s viewpoint. What is mean is you can’t move the position of the camera within the aircraft in each new window separate from the viewpoint of the pilot’s viewpoint on the main screen. They only move ‘in place’ lateral / vertical / roll but you can’t translate the view in the cockpit up / down / left right / forward / back independent of the main sim windows’ camera position.
This would be helpful to setup wing / window views in GA aircraft for side monitors, while still moving the front view outside of the cockpit for people with physical dashboards / instruments that don’t need the virtual cockpit and just need a full outside view out the front of the aircraft. If you move the view now, in my setup, it works because I don’t need to see any part of the aircraft on my screens, just outside. All 3 screens views’ move together forward and outside of the cockpit. But for someone with GA aircraft sim setup, how to they setup good wing / window views and get that clear, aircraft / cockpit-less front view without moving the side views along with it and not being able to see the correct side / wing perspectives? It would also be cool to setup a passenger view from the cabin on one screen and have the cockpit on the other. Just some thoughts to improve the multi screen function and make it even more useful.
I also commented in the other thread. If this is implemented and I 100% agree it needs this ability then the settings need to be saved on a per aircraft basis because one set of settings will not work for all aircraft. This is in part because of size differences and the layout and relationship of the main windshield to the side windows.
It sounds like you want to be able to move the views independent of each other in order to get the forward view without the virtual cockpit. While I would also like to see the option to have more than one view group, this is a wrong reason. If you want that effect, the right thing to do would be to continue to ask for the ability to deactivate the virtual cockpit on a view-by-view basis.
I’d like to see more than one view group so that I can have an extra monitor on the back wall of my cockpit with a set of kiosk-style controls to allow an observer to select and configure that view independent of what’s going on inside.
Well, yes and no. I want the forward view without the VC (just move the view forward of the Windshield) for those of us who have physical dashboards / instruments / cockpits or want just the over-the-dashboard view with the windshield still showing, but want the option to have the VC / aircraft cabin on the side monitors or the wings showing (like out the window of a Cessna 172 or Piper Arrow). The added ability would be to move the view anywhere in the aircraft, say on the PMDG 737, on any monitor so you could set wing views for passenger views in airliners while still having the forward view on your main monitor. Everyone has different setups so it would be nice to be able to put any view on any monitor independent of the “main” view.
Dear Asobo,
We need multi view option on multi monitor feature or maybe choosing monitor with custom camera save settings. So that everyone can set custom camera positions on multiple monitors. Right now it is only a cockpit view. If you guys add a slider to multi monitor settings that changes/moves camera position left/right/up/down, we all be free to make views like wing view, external views etc.. on multiple monitors.
Addition to multi view, please add an option to disable transition effect to camera settings on custom camera changes. Therefore, when changing camera views in cockpit, we can have immediate change without transition slide effect that cause motion sickness.
Imagine we have left wing view on the left monitor and right wing view on the right monitor.
I’d also like the ability to have independent views.
For example, I’d like to be able to fly from the cockpit while looking around at instruments while my brother watches an external view on my second screen. (For this example, the second view would not need to be movable at the same time; it could be set to a fixed follow camera and then ‘unfocused’.)
I disagree on this, moving the view outside in front of windscreen is a poor workaround as perspective is off and you lose weather effects on windscreen (rain, ice, etc…)
The good solution is to keep camera inside the plane, but with interior model not visible.
An independent move of the view point in each window (not only rol, also vertical or horizontal) would also helpful for my “homecockpit”. I have one monitor / window shown the instrument panel and a second for the outside view. For the view of the instrument panel I set a minus 45 degree angel vertical rol from the outside view. Works not bad but is limiting the panel view a lot. What I would wish is a offset like xplane have for the different monitors
Not just your cockpit but just about everyone’s would benefit from this. It’s a fundamental missing capability of multi screen that we all hope is improved now that it’s here. Personally I want to use different sized screens for the side windows and I just can’t set that up to my satisfaction. right now. I might add that having these setting stored on a per aircraft basis is probably also required because of the cross section of aircraft we have. One setup only would likely be a compromise between all the aircraft and I’d rather not that for the sake of loading the view settings with the aircraft.
To reactivate the topic here, because I think we have received only a rudimentary solution so far.
In one of the latest updates, multiple screen support was implemented in the ‘Experimental’ section.
I would be interested to know if Asobo plans to make any optimizations in this regard. I’m talking about performance optimizations (currently massive FPS reduction by adding each additional display) and extended FOV (Field of view) settings for a triple monitor setup. The current settings do not allow an optimal result.
Independent windows would be great. On top of that I’d like to be able to change the perspective. With a physical dual pilot system the perspective is off, still in the center, when it should be moved to where the pilot is actually sitting. Moving the eyepoint only moves the eyepoint.
Ever since i realized that MSFS 2020 was going to appear i created an simple environment using 3 screens. I was not looking to build a cockpit but just wanted a more realistic view of the sim. Whilst waiting for it to be released I played with Prepar 3D and loved the multi screen option. Just before release I even asked about the option and was told it was to be included.
I have waited and waited and finally received a Experimental Multi-screen option but it is incomplete.
It need to operate in 3 dimensions both through Rotation and Translation. This to me is the first step before looking at removable panels etc.
Does Asobo have any intention in updating this?
I don’t know that MS / Asobo have made any improvements / upgrades to the multiscreen function in MSFS. They need to add the ability to translate and forward / backward independent of the main view. They said there would be improvements, but it’s been radio silence since the feature released.
i wouldnt say happy 100%, but its usable and better than what we had which was eyefinity/surround desktop only prior to. i think most have gotten half of what we wanted, so the immediate need has been sated. its like when you want steak, but you get chicken nuggets. not as fulfilling, but you’re not starving any more either.
I submitted this wishlist, but the moderator said it was a duplicate of this “wish”, and mine would be deleted in 7 days. I don’t see that as being exactly true. My version contains details not included in this thread. Therefore I am posting my content in this thread so that it doesn’t entirely disappear from Asobo’s considerations for improvements. Given Asobo’s track record we probably won’t see this improvement in my lifetime anyway, but here it is for whatever it’s worth…
Allow different camera views in multiple windows
Please add the ability to have different camera views in different spawned “multiple windows” as provided by General Options>Experimental – e.g. Cockpit/External/Drone cameras. Each view should support the full functionality of that camera view (zoom, pan, follow, etc.). This could be achieved programmatically by changing the camera view in the active window (the Windows OS can provide the active window ID). So you would select the window you want to change, and then do normal camera view selection. Additionally, the General Options>Experimental could allow for a “default camera view”. This would allow different windows/monitors to have different views of the aircraft or terrain/area or instrument panel, or map, in view while flying. This would greatly improve the experience and usability of MSFS, and make it competitive with other flights sims which have this feature (more sales!).
p.s. In this request “window” and “monitor” are used interchangeably as the spawned window can be on it’s own monitor.
It has been really quiet surrounding this subject since the release of an experimental version. Every dev update I hope to spot Asobo working on this, only to find out they aren’t. It seems they abandoned this feature
I’m hoping perhaps some of these fundamentally wrong things that have many votes get some focus soon. You are right it’s been far too long. I can’t complete my MSFS cockpit without this. I suspect they are focusing on 2024 and 2020 is getting left.
