Multiple sim updates have now required patching due to inherent issues

This evening has come the confirmation (May 5th, 2022 Development Update - Microsoft Flight Simulator) that the development team is working on a patch to address some issues that have been widely reported as a result of Sim Update 9.

While this is welcome news, it is, as we all know, certainly not the first time a mandatory Sim Update has introduced bugs that have subsequently needed to be resolved.

This appears to be a recurring issue: update is released - bugs introduced - community feedback - fix issued.

Is Asobo concerned at this pattern? What is going wrong in the testing process that means that, on multiple occasions, bugs have been introduced as part of a mandatory update that have been so fundamentally serious that a hotfix has had to be issued?

Pretty standard for software as complex as this sim. Glad to see the devs are working hard on a hotfix for those who need it.

But it is not standard to run a beta for an update and completely ignore feedback of the issues beta testers bring up. A lot of the issues that arose from the update were brought up by beta testers but all that feedback was ignored and the released the update anyways.

Sure it is. Devs often need more info re: user systems than Beta testers can offer. Also, some testers complain but dont submit tickets or supply usable information to run down each and every bug.

And saying complaints were ignored is a dubious claim.

I can’t subscribe to the theory that feedback is ignored. Progress isn’t coming as fast as we want, but I believe they’re doing the best that they can do. Also, we all have our areas that we want addressed, and the problem is, if that area isn’t addressed, well then they must be ignoring us, right? For me, that area is ATC. So if I’ve submitted ATC tickets and nothing is done, should I assume they’re not listening? Or maybe I would imagine that the problem is too complex to be solved any time soon.

And imagine if they said “We’re going to fix ATC, but it’ll take all of our staff and six months to do it - so no other fixes but that will come out.” Well hey, sign me up, because I want that fixed. But imagine the reaction of those who don’t care about ATC?

ATC is being not only worked on, but if i understand correctly, being rebuilt from the ground up. No pun intended

“fix issued”. How long have they known about the bush trip issue? Will be 2 years soon since game release and they’re still broken.

This sim is unplayable for me after SU9. I get a stutter at the Asobo splash screen and get to the next screen and CTD everytime. I don’t want to hear about what is your setup? or what are your settings? I will tell you they are more than sufficient to run this aggravating piece of software. You should not have to screw around with nvidia settings and in-game settings EVERYTIME. It is so unreliable when you don’t know if the sim is going to crash or a 1/50 chance you get to finish a flight. Like many others, I have spent a bunch of money on this product and third party aircraft/add-ons. If I was a third party developer I’d be embarrassed to put my name on this. I understand this is an extremely in depth and complicated code but after almost two years it should be stable at the very least. How does it even make sense to add world updates to a broken sim? Yes I realize it is more than one “team” involved but the sim has both major and minor recurring issues that at this stage should be few and far between. I also realize that a percentage of users don’t have any problems or at least an enjoyable experience, but I’d be willing to bet more often than not based on the ratings of this title alone, customers are not happy. I believe these issues started as a snowflake and is now the biggest snowball of a sh
show anyone has ever seen. So Asobo/Microsoft if you’re reading this (which I’m sure you’re not) I will take a refund for the amount I’ve spent on new hardware and software, or get your

together and develop/fix the sim you’ve advertised. End rant.

Would love the good old days of FSX vectoring to return
love to visit more uncontrolled aerodromes and not have to guess it

I understand the frustration, but since this isn’t an ongoing subscription service, I’m not as concerned with the speed of fixes and/or updates. As long as they are communicating regularly, and providing a rough timeline is good enough for me.

Software like this is extremely complex. Extremely complex. I hesitate to assume things because I’m only a hobbyist coder and can’t imagine what it’s like to work on a project like this.

While it would be nice to be able to lock-in a version, it’s just not possible. I have to take the good with the bad.

Only when all of the major features have been implemented, will I even think about complaining if stuff is still broken. There are huge chunks of code that still haven’t been completed, so I expect things to break for some time.

It’s not standard to issue updates that introduce bugs in stuff that worked fine before, it’s also not standard to re-introduce bugs that were fixed in a previous update.
It can happen, occasionally. But it’s not to be expected. And I’ve not seen a lot of customers that are OK with it.

Well, obviously our experience has been different. Also, i didn’t say everyone should be okay with issues that they have. I do suggest that those having issues should file very detailed Zendesk tickets, instead of repeatedly spamming this section with wildly dramatic rants while using descriptions such as, disastrous, violent, unforgivable, incompetent, etc. (Just a few ive seen in the last week)

None of that is constructive towards the goal we as users and the devs are hoping to reach. Its just tedious and shows a lack of maturity.

That’s just not true and not based on facts! The fact that it was released means that it was good enough for market, according to the product managers. They even released known issue notes, so we would know what they’re working on.
Today we hear they will release a fix soon.
C’mon what more do we need? This is excellent product release management.

I know what we need here: less complaining and more patience.

Bush Trip issues started with SU5 and got worse with every SU or WU.
So it is about a year now.

I agree with every word of this - feel exactly the same way, now on Xbox after years on PC and this time SU9 has broken MSFS totally but every single update has given me issues - all of them bigger than the ‘improvements’

This time Asobo say they’re “excited” to be developing a patch for “emerging issues”

Emerging issues? They were all present and visible to anyone who spent more than 5 minutes testing).

The “emerging” issue here is that an improved development process is required to better control the release of updates - sure it will slow down the development roadmap but my bet is that the wins gained in progress towards a more stable SW would be more appreciated by all current and future users.

Maybe the reality is, that we, here in the forum, just do not appreciate the Big Picture.

We communicate here, as a very very very small percentage of the MSFS user base while the majority of owners of MSFS ( Note I specifically said owners, as opposed to users), are quite unaware of what is discussed here, or even what is really happening with the sim ( Not that we really know a lot better here).

In the BIG Picture, MSFS is most likely seen, at least by MS, as a major success
in that it is probably making good profits (assumed based on reported sales), and the major drive is to attract those that have yet to “bite”, to purchase the product, (ideally on X-box), and get locked into the highly profitable MS-Store venue stream.

The fact that ATC may be sub-standard for a few (or many), or that the sim Crashes or is un-runnable of a small percentage of MSFS Owners PC (or X-Boxes), is only a minor issue – IN THE BIG PICTURE.

The PR engine keeps rolling along, assuring everyone who asks, that all is well, and look out for the next big “Surprise” or "FREE Update, and all those who have gone out and spent a large amount of money ( and time) on computer and aviation addons, wait patiently, in hope that one day, it will all come together and work, as it was promoted and sold to them years ago,

But at the end of the day, its only a passing Computer game, and while all this seem so important now, in 5 years time – who knows -
Devs will come & go, the Sim WILL improve and evolve - but only then to be taken over by something else, and all this MSFS Drama will be forgotten . as it was with FSX and past MS Flight simulators.

We sit here, looking back at past Flight Sims, marveling on how more IMMERSIVE this one is
and we will be doing the same in 5-10 years time when looking back at MSFS 2020, we will be wondering what all the fuss was about.

Maybe MSFS is more of a Roller Coaster ride, than a Flight Simulator ?

Certainly, the recently added Turbulence has added to that Roller Coaster nausea ..

But i still LOVE MSFS, if only for so many good people I have got to know through it.

The sim is excellent, it is immersive and it looks uber realistic, I don’t for one second, not appreciate the ability to fly anywhere in the world and Im grateful we have it.

My beef is about time. Myself and many others don’t have infinite buckets of it, so I would rather spend my time flying and relaxing. Unfortunately the last several months have been spent worrying about updates, messing with add ons, tweaking settings all over the place and on and on and on.

We just need some decent stability and that should really come with the amount of betas they have introduced. But something isn’t working. If I can run the sim pre patch in a certain scenario and then I cant afterwards with that scenario then they have broken something in the update.

Not a day passes or some program on my PC receives an update be it mail client, browsers, you name it, constant updates. It The Sim is no different except that with the Simulator we are still in the development stages. Folks tend to forget that.

Its standard. I follow so many early access games.. have you seen how they butchered vr? This needs fixing asap. I cant fly 2d ever again.

Im happy about hotfixes after a major patch instead of having to wait 2 months for problems to be fixed
