I´ve found a solution for the MSFS key to mute / unmute topic.
Sorry for my english, it´s not my native language.
There is a freeware program called “Sound Volume View”
Scroll down for the download link.
Step by step guide:
After downloading the the app, open Sound Volume View and be sure MSFS is running in the background.
Right click on Flightsimulator.exe and select Create Desktop Shortcut → Mute / Unmute Switch
Confirm with Yes
Now you find a shortcut on your desktop Disable Switch FlightSimulator.exe
First solution:
Now you can choose with right click on Properties if you wanna send this to your taskbar. If you click on it, the MSFS Sound is instant muted, click again and the sound of MSFS is unmuted.
Second solution:
If you wish you can choose under Properties a shortcut with a keybinding you want.
But keep in mind, this option take up to 2 seconds, when you pressing your desired keybinding for muting and unmuting.
The Sound Volume View App don´t has to be running in the background!
Just setting it up one time and it´s done.
I have a keyboard with sound controls, so that works for both mute and volume if needed. My main monitor is actually a TV, so the sound is running through its speakers, and the TV’s volume works. I also have my sim set to mute when anything else is “in focus” in Windows, so clicking the desktop on my laptop monitor instantly mutes the sim. If you’re running a single monitor on a desktop, that same setting will let you hit the Start button on the keyboard to shift focus and mute the sim.
Your solution is another way to fix the lack of Asobo, to just simple add a built-in keybind
Well done tclayton2k!
I also have a 2 display setup (TV and PC-Monitor).
My approach to solve the issue, is especially for headset users when you are flying online like VATSIM or IVAO. If you are flying online, then the ATC´s and the other pilots maybe bothered when they hear your aircraft sound from another device in the background, when you are talking via the comms.
And in some situations, the different ATC stations are on different volumes, whats really annoying. And when your aircraft sound is too loud, then you simply press a button to understand when the ATC´s are giving you advices. Nothing more annoying to ask the ATC´s “Say again” twice ore more often in a high workload.
