My simple demands/wishes for an immersive flight

My friends and I have been flying MSFS for many months doing an around the world trip in the TBM. Most of us (90%) fly using VR. The excellent G3000 suite mod by Working Title makes the experience so much better. Everyone experiences the sim differently and have different requirements but for us, it’s about realism and immersion. Besides the heartache after every sim update where things that used to work are broken and coming up with workarounds, the experience flying around the world has been mind-blowing.

However, there are a few things (I’ll keep it to 10) I just wish the sim did better and here is a list of some of them. These may seem trivial but if Asobo ever decided to fix these would move the sim towards perfect for what we do:

  1. Flight Planning - (VFR) the ability to set departure, destination and waypoints in a specific sequence and not have the flight planner override the order in which the user places them.
  2. Flight Planner - (VFR) the ability to change the sequence of waypoints by dragging-and-dropping them in the nav log.
  3. Flight Planner - the ability to see the correct Metar weather when you click on any Metar capable waypoint on the flight planner map. Metar is now available in sim but not in the flight planner?
  4. Ground crew - push-back ground crew for a TBM?? - I think not - please have ground crew spawn based on the correct aircraft type. If this were real there would be many body parts strewn around airport tarmacs by now
  5. Multiplayer planes - more generic multiplayer model types - we don’t need hundreds/thousands just more represented types. For example, buddy flies a Just Flight Hawk we see an A380 passenger plane. Or a buddy flies a Spitfire, we see a potato Bonza dragging its tail. Crazy!
  6. CTD - yes these still happen sporadically for all of us in the group - one day you fly, no problems at all, the next day you get CTD - no changes to the system. With every flight at least one person in the group CTDs after about 2.5 hours flight time (like clockwork).
  7. Weather changes - after SU7 weather changes are abrupt and a few of us have lost a plane by overstressing when such a weather change occur. Prior to SU7 weather changes were subtle. Now it’s a smack in the face especially at high altitudes where things are marginal.
  8. VFR Map - is still basically only fit for basic flight. Adding airport information and METAR will add so much more usefulness. This is such a basic thing that could be made so much better and useful.
  9. VR Mouse Interaction - this is still a mess and I so wish Asobo would look at VR implementations by titles like DCS Aerofly2. With those titles, you touch what you point at. MSFS still suffers from parallax problems - third-party planes even worse. Having to close your right eye and align with your left to find the click location is an immersion breaker. I wonder if Asobo ever actually flies or tests the sim in VR as surely they would have seen the problem by now. All of us in the group experience this, so it’s not person-specific.
  10. Logbook - yeah after SU7 there is now the option to stop the logbook from showing up after you turn off battery power, so thanks Asobo. However now when you turn off the battery power the first person view in VR bobs up and down and it looks like the person is having a spastic attack and then settles. I mean how hard can it be to program a log-book popup from not showing up or in this case just ignoring the event.

There are other things that are annoying but we live past them, laugh at the fact they call this “game of the year” - I mean that is quite the claim - and only hope update-after-update things will improve.

Excellent!! I second every motion and shout an exuberant “AMEN.”

Is there someone on here that doesn’t want realism and immersion?

Maybe MS could put in “Realism” and “Immersion” sliders?

I guess some just want a game they can fire up, muck around the place, pretend its GTA and off to play Roblox or Minecraft  So not everyone wishes realism or immersion.

Hello. I also look for the best realism I can. I agree with the above list (besides I fly with TrackIR, not VR). But as some of the items, like flight planning, there are great external software as LittleNavMap that do a great job. I would like the Asobo/MS team to concentrate on “core” aspects they only can fix/improve. One of the things I miss much is the possibility, without saving and reloading, to find my aircraft exatly in the same conditions and place where you left it. In my opinion it should have been the default, if you want to call this a Simulator. But I understand there are a bounch of legitimate users that just want to jump on a plane and fly. Well, a slider, or a switch, could do the job.

I got you bro.

Hey MS This the real straight from the serious realism flyers. They aren’t some group of GTA gamers (er, or as much anymore), they are into hardcore immersion (and not minecraft!). Look, we all know that you have been ignoring immersion and realism for the entire 39 years of developing this title, instead pandering to the Oregon Trail and Castle Wolfenstein players. But the time has come to get real. And immersed. Really immersed.

All I ask for is that they put it back to SU6 and fix the shimmering textures. I wa very happy with SU6.
