My Spouse Watched Me Fly

From San Francisco, takeoff to Vancouver to land.

It was something.

I managed it all. Through IFR landing.

Told them what would happen the whole time.

It was cool.

It’s awesome your spouse showed that much interest. It would bore my spouse to tears!

Mine too.

Her eyes even start glazing over when I talk about it

Possibly gaining evidence for the divorce lawyer.

When it first came out, I always referred to it as Divorce Simulator 2020.

My wife once used the word “suspicious” to describe me disappearing into the office for a couple hours.

Nothing suspicious about learning to fly an A310!

haha love the post and love the comments.

My wife and I sometimes simfly together for a bit. As she’s a lot smarter than I am, I asked her to learn how approach plates work and she keeps up with me during tricky arrivals through foggy fjords, making sure we are where we need to be. She even started an interest in VOR-beacons, she’s now tuning them radios and intercept courses on the logitech panel. :sparkling_heart:

(Did had to watch the whole Amelia Earhart movie though, with Richard Gere and all…)

My partner will watch when she is here, she finds it fascinating.

If she calls while I’m flying she just stays on the phone and listens.

She has a nerdy side and geeks out on the ATC speak (VATSIM).

I wish me and lady shared the same enthusiasm about the sim as most others do. She wants me to learn to fly in real life but I keep telling her the sim is cheaper and safer than real life. Hopefully soon she will realize that this is the best option currently.

After getting the license and the aircraft, mine is interested in what I am doing on MSFS.
Which I explain as practicing flying into the destinations we are going to.

My wife looks like she’s trying to escape her own body if I have her watch more than 2 minutes of a landing. I’ve given up  I am just happy she doesn’t bat an eye when I buy new addons or peripherals. She knows it’s my #1 indoor hobby even if it bores her to tears.

Holy moly, you married a co-pilot my good man. Nice catch.

That is impressive that you got your wife to watch you play MSFS. My wife only watches when she comes down to the basement to do laundry and just happens to catch a glimpse of the monitor when she is making a hard left at the bottom of the steps to head for the washing machine. Airplanes bore her to tears unless we are flying on one to go on vacation.

Wow, your wife watching you fly, now that’s something special. You certainly have yourself a gem there.

Even though my wife will not enjoy watching me fly for more than a few minutes, she does support me with my passion. She was the one who came up with the perfect location in the house when I expressed wanting to more my flight sim setup from the desk to a more “enclosed” experienced.

I have been wanting a more permanent chair situation in the cockpit (instead of moving my work desk chair from the cockpit to the work desk every week), and have been looking for a cockpit seat.
Considering the ones I found were either outside my budget, or the shipping was way too expensive. My wife found a 2nd hand racing seat online. We almost bought it, but my wife noticed it wasn’t quite what I imagined, so we bailed out, and I would keep searching. (I even considered a car seat)

Then 2 months ago my wife found an actual co-pilot seat for sale in my home town. I was sold as soon as I saw the picture and it’s price. That same weekend we went to look at it, and ended up buying the seat.
My wife kept asking me: “and you are sure you can make it work”.
And I kept ensuring her that I would be able to make the modifications to make it work.

My wife helped with re-doing the seat cushens.

And just a week ago, I finished with the modifications, and installed the seat in the cockpit where it moves back and forth, as well as up and down.

When she saw the seat in the cockpit the smile on her face said it all.

It shows how important spouse support is (and YES, that works both ways!!)

I am happy for anyone who experiences the support of their spouse/partner with whatever gives them joy.

Time for both of you to go try a real trial fight!

Mine will sort of show an intrest when i show her how good the scenery looks, and that is about as much as it gets with her lol.

Mine can be coaxed occasionally to put on my G2 VR headset, but absolutely refuses to try and take control of the plane. She was blown away when I flew over Venice the other day, and showed her the train station where she walked out of on a visit there and saw her first canal. I switched from the Beaver float plane to the H145 helicopter so I could hover over things like the Bridge of Sighs. She has visited Venice before we married and I haven’t, so that was a great conversation about the sights and her memories of being there. It was also fun watching her head on a swivel as she looks around in VR to take in all the sights.

That is the last thing my spouse wants to do…watch me fly a simulator.
And, she thinks I spend way too much time in my “computer room”…
O well, she may be “somewhat” correct. I do spend a lot of time fiddling with MSFS…smile
