Well, it’s been a really rocky start. But it is getting better.
Pros:
- The graphic performance has gotten better. Now, that might be because I’ve been messing with my graphics settings. I have a RTX 3080 Ti. I haven’t had any VRAM problems really, and I’ve got the textures on ultra. I would like to point out that (if you have it installed) Windows+G reports a frame rate that isn’t close to reality. It will say I have a frame rate of 15fps or so when it’s clearly closer to 30fps.
- Bandwidth usage doesn’t seem to be a problem, surprisingly. But I also have a 1Gbps fiber connection.
- CTDs and glitches have really improved. This should have been a thing on launch, but at least they seem to be addressing it. (I know a lot of it was their CDN at the start.)
Cons/Wishlist:
- Expanding on the above, I really wish I could suck down a lot of data to run offline, because with my job I often wind up living in hotels for weeks at a time. They have deplorable Internet connectivity. My flight simulator is about the only way I don’t feel claustrophobic and go inane.
- The flight models need some help. I just flew a few approaches in a TBM9 and for some reason it’s a mess. I even turned on “auto-rudder” but it didn’t really help. Now, part of this is specific to the airport (KRUG) that I was flying into, which I think in real life probably has some majorly screwed up approach profiles. But there was a 1 knot crosswind, so it isn’t that.
- Can we do something about the “back in the air” thing?
- I had the simulator CTD when I was using OnAir in the background. I tried to resume the flight, and every time MSFS 2024 crashed me immediately. Asobo needs to address this because a whole lot of people use OnAir.
- Career mode sucks.
- I had an issue with the sim pulling the ailerons to the right after trying to set some dead zones. It eventually got mysteriously fixed, but can we have an option to calibrate a HOTAS?
