Nasty FPS drop and lagging on take-off and landing

This was the fix I tried at the suggestion of Captain Sasso.

  1. Before launching the sim, navigate to Users>YourUserName>AppData>Local>FlightSimulator.
  2. There you should find a folder called “mapscache” and a file called “overrides.json”.
  3. Make a backup copy of these files, just in case.
  4. Delete these files.
  5. Launch the sim.
  6. I checked and found the sim had re-created new versions of the deleted files
  7. Check that Photogrammetry is switched ON.
  8. Choose your favourite plane and your favourite airport.
  9. Take off.
If you’re lucky, like me, you’ll find that all the huge fps drops when taxiing, taking off and landing have disappeared.
Needless to say, you do all this at your own risk. No guarantees from me. I just followed Captain Sasso’s suggestion and it worked on my system.
PLEASE let me know via this thread if it works for you!
To be clear: this apparent fix is completely UNCONNECTED with today’s SU8 update.

Just done the delete sim seems smoother at airport I fly from. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

it worked for me too, definitely runs smoother

Did you intend to suggest we DELETE the .json file ONLY or also DELETE the Folder or just the files IN the folder called mapscache ? Because you only say delete these “files”
Files2Delete

I deleted both

You deleted Both the .json file and the files in the mapscache folder or the .jason file and the entire mapscache folder.

I did this (Steam) and it made a world of difference. When I exited the sim I noticed that the files were re-created which I assumed would happen - my guess is that they fill up or corrupt over time, which is causing the problem. I’m considering setting up a Task Scheduler job to delete the files when I start Windows to see if this is a consistent fix.

Thank you so much captain saso, it works!!!

It also fixes the problem when my A320 pass thru some waypoint and had drop frames, it fixes both the issues. Thanks again!

Live version of SU8 much lower performance than expected. Participated in Beta, did not have low frame rates and CTDs. 2 CTD’s so far with 1.23.12.0 live.

yes, i know, i was about to reinstall windows & msfs literaly on the same day!!! when i accidently found a possible solution on facebook but lucky for me i was busy and didnt have time to do it.
I had this problem for months now and was really ■■■■■■ off i couldnt fly & explore the cities with PG on.

Good idea but Asboso should find a way to fix this instead of letting us like cracking something all the time, this PG problem has been a long while

Thank you so much! The trick did it for me! Never had a flight this smooth from gate to gate ! Seems that it resolved my fps during long flights too! Thanks again

Super…pour moi aussi problème résolu. MERCI

Thanks for the update.
Deleted the file and folder. After that, everything was rebuilt after starting MSFS.
It appears a bit smoother, however, I did experience a CTD shortly after landing and a brief taxi.
I was stopped on the taxiway looking around with the outside view when the CTD occurred.
That is the first CTD I have had since last year.

Whatever Asobo has done, I have the little white ‘loading circle’ on the down right corner every few seconds now (and then the sim stutters). This wasn’t the case before (SU8). Don’t know what this should do (better). And it is kinda disturbing to be honest.

Same here and it’s driving me crazy… Every update breaks something.

It is very unfortunate that I must agree with you.

I can’t quite tell if we are moving forward or staying in one place.

I think we’re going backwards…
