About 3 or 4 days ago, after a Windows update, my HP Reverb G2 suddenly started going black (one lens at a time) after about 20 minutes of flying regardless of which aircraft or are.
I have searched high and low for possible solutions including audio issues and registry settings. Nothing has worked.
It seems like it’s a memory issue because it works fine up until the 20-minute (or so) period.
Could the cable be the culprit? I have read other users saying they have replaced the cable with no luck.
I was hoping the latest MSFS beta would magically fix the issue but, again, no luck.
What happens if you go out of VR and then back? Is the G2 still malfunctioning? If not - this could be a workaround.
Is this happening outside MSFS as well? Other games?
G2’s have a tendency to overheat, causing black screens. Has the temperature in your sim room been higher recently? If so, try pointing a fan at the headset to see if it helps.
Have you considered removing the update to see if the problem persists? At least that might indicate if the issue has been caused by the update and not just a coincidence.
My previous G2 started suffering with the view in the headset going blank, but it was quite random. It turned out to be the cable in the end. Once that was replaced (under warranty) the problem was resolved.
Thanks for the suggestions. It also happens in Derail Valley VR and I have since tried reverting back but still no joy.
As JaxxZA mentioned, it does certainly look like an overheating issue. I will try to see if a fan works. If not, my choices will be a new VR headset (which I do not want to do) or back to 2D. Maybe time to look at Tobii…
UPDATE - I have seen forums where users drilled holes into the faceplate of the G2, another installed a do-it-yourself heatsink to the faceplate.
Tried JaxxZA suggestion: place a fan pointed at the G2 and lo and behold, complete a 90-minute flight. Let’s hope this can work in the long term. THANKS AGAIN!
