folks, two questions about bush trips
1 - are you supposed to be always on full throttle? I seem to lag behind according to the navlog ETA. This makes it hard to follow each step.
2 - how the hell do we refuel? At the beginning of each leg I try to use the refuel shortcut (also tried repair and refuel), but nothing works!!
1- I am not a pilot IRL but I did complete the Sierras bush trip. With the plane at cruise altitude, I set the RPM down to the bottom of the “green zone” and just trim the airplane for level flight. The I use the throttle to control climb, cruise, and descent. I used the Sim Rate to speed up travel- you won’t be “penalized” for that in the trip stats. I ignored the time settings in the log (I got lost more than once
2- Fueling is not implemented! What everyone is doing as far as I can tell is binding the “Repair and Refuel” command to a button or key. Again, no penaty for completing the trip.
Full throttle is not supposed to be used when cruising. It is used during climbing, mostly on take off and sometimes during flight if you need to fly over something big enough to require significant and/or quick change in altitude. Otherwise, use about 75-80% throttle, although ideally you have to refer to RPM as well.
I’ve noticed the ETAs are generally too fast as well. I wonder if they calculated the times in a straight line as the crow flies between waypoints. If you are trying to simulate real life, for normally aspirated fixed pitch pistons cruise is set not by airspeed but by % power, which changes depending on altitude. For example in my Cherokee 65% power at 3000 is 2400 RPM, at 6000 is more like 2500.
I’m about halfway through, and I’ve found that when my cruise airspeed is right on the join between the green arc and the yellow arc (I forget what exact airspeed that is), I hit each point generally within 10 seconds plus or minus… (Sierra Nevada trip)
As for the repair and refuel, only seems to work if you shut off the engine. So when you start the next leg, engines are running, you’ll have shut it off, use your keyboard binding for repair and refuel, then start it back up.
Absolute joke how you have to refuel. The fueling points don’t seem to work. The fuel truck doesn’t come if you use that shortcut. Did no one ever fly the bush trip after creating it? Did they just forget about refuelling: absolutely
Blows my mind how many simple
Bugs like this the game has.
