Never ever use verify files in steam

Never ever use this on MSFS.
It deletes your /official folder of its contents.

You then have to redownload all 95GB which has taken me 5 hours.
Then once in game another 11GB premium Deluxe

Then another 35GB of all my add-ons.

Then I will have to wade through my simmarket purchases.

This is the most annoying time wasting thing ever. Why would this be allowed to happen. Verifying files should not delete files from your system without warning. This is absolutely awful on both steam and MS account. I’m nearly 10 hours of downloading and counting just for veryfying files.

Never ever do it people.

I wish I had seen this earlier. I had a horrendous graphics glitch suddenly occur today with trees. No amount of rebooting solved the problem, so I asked Steam to verify the files. I now have to reinstall the entire thing, which on my paltry internet connection is likely to be around 8 hours in total. The image is the glitch I was trying to resolve.

I’ve decided to abandon this sim. I’ve wasted over £100, but that’s nothing compared to the time I have wasted trying to get it too work. I’ll have another look in a few months.

Play nice or we’ll start issuing warnings as per Code of Conduct

Well it took me 9 hours to reinstall. Base SIM plus almost every add-on released at that date.

It’s a terrible thing. Never ever again will I do that.

Someone encouraged me to have another go (I may regret it), so I ran it overnight only to discover that it was stuck on “… decompressing fs-base-0.1.61.fspackage.005 …”. I deleted this file from the install folder. Forced the installer to close, because it refused to exit. Then rebooted and got a BSOD. Then after rebooting again I started the installer and it now got stuck on “… decompressing fs-base-0.1.61.fspackage.005 …”. So, I deleted that file too and restarted the installer and it is now running through the other installation files and making some progress. This is utter madness, but I decided to try, so I will …

In case it is of any use to someone with similar installation issues …

If you keep finding that the installer gets stuck on a file, allegedly still decompressing it, it is most likely that it has already processed the file, but can’t get permission to remove it, so it gets into an infinite loop. I suggest giving “flightsimulator.exe” Administrator rights and then restarting the installer by whatever means necessary, which may require a forced exit. This seems to have solved the repetitive “stuck on a file” issue for me so far, but still only on step 16 of 48 steps after 8 hours.

I cannot believe I just encountered this, but after the Steam connection issues tonight (Sept 21) I figured I’d give it a check.

132.47 GB blown to hell and now I will have to spend all night re-downloading it. How is this STILL a thing with no warning whatsoever that it will delete the installed files?

It is the spawn of Satan. How hard is it to say “if you Continue, you will basically delete your Sim”

Really sorry you had to get this.

Missing warning
