New CFD airflow makes Sedona Training more difficult for newcomers

The introduction of the new CFD has made the air in the mountainous terrain around the Sedona training areas noticeably more active. This can potentially make training a little more frustrating for newcomers, especially when being asked to maintain specific attitudes and or altitudes. Is there any plan to have these airflows disabled for the introductory training missions? Then perhaps even add a new “Managing Turbulence” mission to transition out to the intermediate missions.

Don’t run before you can walk, you mean. Yes, I think you’ve got a great idea there.

Let someone new get used to the controls before throwing in extra variables.

The 2 things I found most difficult in my pilot training (apart from the NAV mathematics), were wind and engine management. Taking off, flying and landing were a doddle in comparison.

Instead of disabling the airflows I’d suggest accounting for this in the scoring system. Less point should get deducted when you drift a little bit up or down.

It’s been a while since I’ve tried that training scenario (I think I only did the landing one), but, just as food for thought, would it be potentially easier to just change the weather and time of day of the scenario such the airflow is less complex, like having the prevailing winds calm and making it earlier in the morning so that there’s less solar energy and therefore less convection (vertical airflow)? Not sure how complex adding an on/off switch to the whole terrain airflow simulation would be or not be.
