There are areas in the game where an aircraft was flown over the area and pictures were taken to provide the most detailed scenery in the game. Most of my home state of Maryland was included in one of those updates. I would love to see the entire United States covered in that level of detail but it should not be free updates, you guys have given us enough in that department. What I am proposing is that you start with a state, say Maryland and finish the high resolution image capturing and offer it as a DLC. Say $25 a state, prices could be adjusted up or down depending on the size or huge states like Texas could be broken up into three sections Eastern, Central and West Texas. This way you could get better scenery into the game, fund it and also make some money off it. There was a company that did this for FSX and I bought 20 states from them. I really believe it would be a great way to improve over the default bing maps scenery and make some money off it at the same time. Every five years you could capture new imagery and have Maryland 2.0 DLC, where you would give a current owner a discounted rate to upgrade and full price for first time buyers. Again as a collector, I would eventually purchase the entire United States.
And how would young kids and poor pensioners get to enjoy the sim if they were paying 25 dollars a state? At the moment they are struggling to get the base sim running never mind another project to distract from that. Sorry I can’t agree.
Not all of us are flush with money considering the extraordinary amount of gear you have to shell out in the 1st place to pay on PC just to enjoy the game without stutters and freezes.
There are a lot more countries in the world for them to update before the US gets another please.
The backlash to this would be massive.
I would hope that if MS was planning on discontinuing flight simulator for financial reasons that they would at least make a reasonable proposal such as paying for upgraded scenery. But we have no knowledge at all as to the financial goings on at MS or how they make their money or even if money is the goal with any given action. I personally wouldn’t have a problem paying for scenery but it would have to be quality scenery like I know they can do. Right now, Maryland does not look nearly as good as it did when they released it for FS2020 and I hope they fix it soon. Some areas such as Phoenix look amazing while many others are just bad at the moment.
They can enjoy the sim just FINE the way it is. It offers an entire WORLD to explore. What I am talking about is enhancing what is already in the sim. If anyone thinks Microsoft and Asobo hasn’t done enough base game scenery, they are was too self entitled. FSX didn’t come with 90% of the scenery that is in MSFS 2024 and people were not complaining about it back then.
