New edition of the DVD

Will there ever be a new edition of the DVD with all updates and patches

Highly unlikely… making those DVDs are costly. Unless you’re willing to pay for a whole new game for that DVD, it’s unlikely that they will have it.

It’s the main reason why I didn’t get the DVD installation. It gets obsolete really quickly.

Some people like having the physical copy and box for collections, particularly for folks who may have boxed copies of older versions of the sim. I can understand that totally.

But beyond that, it’s absolutely pointless to get it on DVD. You’ll spend an hour installing it from however many discs, then immediately have to download 100+GB of updates. You could just download the full 150 GB from the digital edition and save yourself that extra time and work.

I used to be like that, I had collected physical DVDs and Blu-ray for my movie collection. Until eventually I realised it was silly of me to do so. Because it takes up space and also prone to damages and data corruption. Not to mention the hassle of opening the box, take the discs out, load them into a drive. And in the case of PC installations, swapping discs as you go to the next. Then there’s also the time it takes to read data from optical discs.

So I got myself terabytes of SSD and start ripping all those physical discs and store them digitally to those SSDs. And I got myself a media player that can play my ripped Blu-ray discs directly from the SSD and hot swappable too. No more lags from read speed as the files are instantly accessed from the SSD. And everything already available and directly accessible from one place.

Suffice to say, I’ve ended up digitising all my physical media and my cabinet is replaced with just SSD with all my contents inside.

But that’s just me.

Same here. Any DVD I had or music CD is digitized and lives on my NAS. I can access any of it from anywhere I have a reasonable internet connection.

Ditto for games. Been on Steam since it launched in 2003. Haven’t bought physical media for that since. The only exception was when I bought my son a Wii back when they first came out. Most of it’s games weren’t available as downloads.

I got the DVD version just because I could use a discount on it which made it significantly cheaper than digital (except for the key resellers).

But I never used the DVDs to install it, just downloaded it via windows store.

I doubt that they will make a new edition of it since it’s just a few months and it’s again outdated.
For such a highly connected game which needs quite a lot of bandwidth, the installation is the least critical part (but can be slow unfortunately).
