New Hardware and now...¿I need a new video card?. Pleaste comment ant Help Me

Goodnight. I just got a Ryzen 7 5800X, 32G RAM and a 1TB NVME disk. I have an MSI 1070TI Titanium 8G video card that is the one I used with my previous equipment, I think it is not up to the task at the moment and they have offered me two more modern cards.

One is the MSI RX 6700XT 12G DDR6 Gaming and the other is the MSI RTX 3070TI 8G DDR6X Ventus 3X OC. I know (from benchmarks I’ve been researching) that the 3070 seems to perform better than the 6700, but the video memory (VRAM) difference is noticeable in favor of the RX6700.

So far the game is always consuming me between 90 and 99% of the VRAM in 1070TI wigh 8G, and my question is if it will not be more comfortable operating with 12G even if the board is not as powerful in terms of GPU. There is also a notable difference between the price of the two, but I’m afraid that even if the 3070 is a little better, I will still be short on video memory.
Anyone who can advise me and tell me if it is convenient for me to keep the current (1070TI Titanium 8G), or change to one of those two that I mention. I’d like those with similar hardware to tell me their experiences to help me decide.

The matter to decide is complicated for me because I understand that FS2020, at now will not take advantage of RayTracing or DX12 or Vulkan for the moment (which could take advantage of graphics) so it is almost like buying something to update and use in other games (which I do not use as much ) but that will not be used by the simulator, at least in the short term.

It´s hard to decide for me!
Thanks a lot!

EDITED:

OKAY. Thank you all for the suggestions, I knew about the upcoming Update and I suppose that if what Asobo says is fulfilled I will be able to draw a couple of more conclusions.

I comment “why” I change my hardware, it is not because I am a millionaire (who would not want to be? :smirk: ) But because in my country (Argentina) the economic situation is not very stable and as every time there are elections there is always greater instability We have found that a politician saying the wrong word ends up causing a rise of 10 to 40% of the Dollar, making it unattainable to acquire anything :disappointed_relieved:.

My equipment is quite old, an I-7 4790K with 16G DDR3 (buying 8 and 8 separately), a traditional HDD and a small SDD. The Mother and the processor are from 2014, the only thing more or less decent is the video card that came out in 2017. It has been an exceptional combination but FS2020 makes it suffer if I want to look beautiful as I like it (I fly especially VFR). The change is due not only to improving the game but also to not losing the investment since I can sell what I have and get money back. The new will not come out “like new” but cheaper.
At the same time, I prefer to reinstall the S.O. cleanly and replace the FS (here, the bandwidth does not matter, even with 16Mb / s the downloads do not go from 1 to 2 or peaks of 2.5Mb / s. downloading without stopping a single second for 4 days and I’ve just downloaded 36Gb!!!).
It is my intention to finish the download in a couple of days and there to receive the update -which will be less than the complete program, if I had waited until tomorrow (which is when the new equipment arrives) I would be a week waiting to test the operation and download the program- and only then do some tests again with my current equipment and with the new one.

With the current hardware shortage I can’t delay, my vendor has a single RX6700 card and a single RTX 3070 card as well, and he won’t reserve them for me much longer. They may not enter for a few months, so I do not want to miss the opportunity for the good price it offers me.

If someone is interested and I have enough time I can pass on the information. FS2020 is a very particular program due to the requirements. Once again, I thank you for your collaboration and comments, you have been very kind to me. Thanks!

Wait until the next update. If it’s like they announced, you can check your VRAM again and maybe there is no need for 12gig. I have a 3900x and a 2060s and was short before upgrade to a 5900x and/or a 30xx but now I wait a little….maybe it’s not necessary to waste money at the moment.

Yep, as already mentioned you may as well wait until tomorrow (July 27th) for the release of Sim Update 5 before making any decisions when you can test how the update affects your current setup.

Just to have a choice, oh what luxury! I’ve ordered AMD but am on a couple of waiting lists including Nvidia. As I have a B550M and AMD cpu I think I’d prefer AMD as it’s the XBox platform and in theory might be better supported … but right now I’ll take anything I don’t have to sell the house for !

There’s no doubt about it, this game is more enjoyable at 45 to 50 FPS and no stuttering. Personally I believe this SIM is ahead of the technology to run it at full Ultra, but it is nice you can throttle it back to make it enjoyable.

I have specs on my laptop that couldný meet the required minimum. But because the MS store said it was compatible Microsoft put in some hours of service. At the end, we added up the hours of service i got, and as I was asking for my money back, first time, we laught our ■■■■■ off. Because they gave me for more then a thousand euro’s of service hours. My laptop was new last year some 900 euro. the game 56 euro.

Hey threw out my nvidea mx230 software, not the card., put the original intel onboard videocard into energy saving mode and it works! Yes, I still don’t get it. So, why don’t you try that till next update?

Thanks for the data Pilotlicious!

Hello my friend, with the PC I have replaced (i-7 4790K / 16G DDR3 / GForce 1070TI) and making some adjustments to the video card using MSI Afterburner (increase video memory speed (VRAM) by 10% and by lowering the GPU voltage (Undervolting) I have achieved 25FPS putting absolutely everything in ULTRA and with maximum details. Several told me that it was not possible, but I saw the video smooth and stable (obviously, compared to a 3090 and a 10th generation processor It is even smoother and more imperceptible.) I had tried many things, Overclocking the CPU (with blue screens and crashes) obviously also increasing the voltage in the BIOS, I used programs like Lasso and several other things but the only thing that gave me results and it worked were the modifications of the video card that I mention.
It is a next generation game, I have no doubts, but there is no computer that can handle it because it does not seem to be too optimized yet, in fact I have seen that it always reloads the first core of the CPU more than the rest. Hopefully future updates will improve that a lot. Greetings from the South of Argentina and thanks for your contribution!

Do not think that it is easy for me to make the change, but as I said, in an unstable country you have to take advantage of the opportunity. What you don’t get now will be much more expensive later. All the hardware always arrives here with a long delay and almost exceeding 50% (minimum) compared to the US or Europe. The hard shortage is a product of the lack of chips - which they said was beginning to normalize - and when it comes to GPUs they can blaspheme virtual coin miners who have left us gamers without hardware. I just hope that the new plates have some way of not serving them and we will see if later they begin to sell the ones used by them although in truth I would not risk buying one that was used to mine cryptocurrencies due to the stress they put under them.
Greetings!

You have already so much better equipment as me. The Microsoft specialist adviced me too upgrade my memory from 8 to 12 gb, and I will. So I think that tweeking your equipment will bring you your desired nice graphics and great gameplay.
