Hi.
I am in the process of building a new gaming pc for MSFS.
Specs,
i9 12900k - RTX3090TI FE - 32GB (5600htz) DDR5 - 1000w psu - 1TB M.2 for MSFS.
Running on 48" 4k Samsung Qled 60htz. (3840 × 2160 native ).
Coming from i7 7700k - GTX1080Ti- 32GB DDR4 (3000htz). Was getting 30fps ish on high settings. I have a low internet bandwidth (15-30mbs) , so not perfect and visuals were poor compared to some videos i have seen. Possibly due to bandwidth.
…
New to the RTX architecture and looking for some links to informative vidios/info on DLSS settings etc and setting up with the new pc once built.
Also obviously in game settings.
I have watched many videos and find things daunting, so simple advice / setting would be much appreciated.
Also i was thinking of upgrading the 60htz 4K tv to a 120htz but not sure if this will make any visual impact to the sim.
Not sure to what extent budget is driving your component choice, so take this all with a pinch of ‘you’re spending how much on a PC?’ salt.
I would suggest going for a 13th gen CPU if you can. You definitely get improved performance over 12th gen. That said, we’re talking +5-10 FPS, not +50. The 13900K turbos to 5.8GHz out of the box, and some people have overclocked it to 6.2 on one core. I never thought we’d break the 6GHz barrier without significant new technology! 13th gen chips work in Socket 1700 boards with Z690 chipsets (and will probably be the last generation that will), so it’s always an upgrade choice later if you do go with 12th gen now. I just did that upgrade (12900K → 13900K) and while my bank manager hates me, I’m happy with it and now I have a 12th gen CPU available to build a new machine for coding
I would also suggest going up to 2TB on the NVMe, it’s not super-expensive, and get one that can do PCI Gen 5 if possible. You can’t have enough super-fast storage for flight sim. Hell, I’m considering swapping out for a 4TB drive, but as you can tell already, I just love to spend money…
The 3080Ti will be a great upgrade from the 1080Ti. I did the same thing in 2021. I’m trying to resist spending absurd amounts of money on a 4090 right now. In truth it’s probably only the availability - I’m not buying a Palit card no matter what anyone says - that’s stopping me.
I have all AMD cpu/gpu components so others can probably provide good suggestions there.
I currently have a Samsung 55" Q70 series Qled which supports 120Hz refresh rate. While the increased refresh rate will help, other things like HDR10 will provide a significant boost in visual impact. You can typically find a 50-55" HDR TV @120Hz for under $1000 (perhaps lower with a good Xmas sale). Additionally, other gaming features such as variable refresh rate, gaming mode, etc are usually bundled into a TV at this price point which will help even more.
He’s better off with the Intel and Nvidia combo. Imo it is the best combo for msfs and most stable atm or he can use AMD for CPU with an RTX card.
AMD is yet to improve their software on the GPU side and it’s still nowhere as good as Nvidia’s. Have to run my RX6800 without the software to get a stable experience.
I Run the exact Same build in 1440p. Well, everything on ultra, TLOD 200 gives me 35 fps in the pmdg @JFK, Just for reference. Dx12 with TAA works best for me. DLSS doesn’t really do a Lot.
I also had the Same system you currently own.
But i never used that with complex plane addons.
I have the same system apart from my memory is DDR4 3600. It works well, i’m running three 50" screens, two at 2K and one at 4K, I also have added two 1080p touch screens via USB-HDMI adaptor. I get around 40FPS in most airports, using DX12 and DLSS.
The screens are all 60Hz and this setup probably will never reach that unless I drop it to 2K or less. I think 30FPS for me is the minimum standard usable, any less and I can easily spot it.
Use a smaller M.2 for the system drive, 1TB for MSFS is ok but put all other apps on another SSD.
Tv , i may stick with current 4K 60htz and maybe run at lower res as doubt will surpass the tv refresh rate/fps anyway.
Also dont play games that really need high fps anyway.
Yes , i usually have a dedicated ssd for each type of game(sorry sim).
1TB 980 pro can handle windows and other programs.
