New Pc!

Hello guys ,
I just Updated my pc from an i7-8700k to i9-11900k , my Video Card from a Gtx 1080ti to RTX 3080ti , motherboard Z-590 and 32 gb Ram .
Unfortunately i did not see any difference in frames ! The same exact settings , Ultra, High , Medium ! LOD 100
Am i doing anything wrong ?

Besides the frames i also get a PC Shutdown from time to time !! Any idea why ?

You probably got a new CPU and GPU and used the old RAM sticks and power supply?

Framerate limiter on? Vsync on? With Vsync on in either the graphics driver control panel or ingame you are limited to your monitors frequency, maybe 60hz. Just in case you didn’t know already. Also, your graphics card may overwhelm your power supply occasionally.

PC shut down suggests the PSU being overloaded and its over-current protection is being activated from time to time. You need an 850W PSU to run that GPU and CPU combo. Some say a bit less but having a margin of spare capacity is recommended.

Power Supply 875 w , this is what i have !
I can see temperatures up to 85c whn i run Msfs2020 .
New Ram 2x16 Kingstom 3600mhz .
Maybe i need a water cooler than an air cooler !!
Just bought a new Vanguard Pc Case with 6 fans !!

Monitor Samsung 32" Curved 3440x1440 150.9khz 100 hz
Frame limiter Off !!

Sounds like the same problem I had when I upgraded to a 3080 last year. I had to upgrade to a much bigger case with better air flow. The other issue that causes this problem GPU sag. That is the the 3080 and 3090 are so big that they actually put too much weight on the motherboard and don’t sit properly. I had to buy a GPU brace to support my big 3080.

After I did all that I didn’t have any further issues.

This is the brace I got. Doesn’t cost much https://www.cclonline.com/gh-01-a-rgb-deepcool-gh-01-a-rgb-gpu-stand-bracket/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwm6KUBhC3ARIsACIwxBhqOOxllAiFD1Oznbv5Qwj_t40vgPH_RMmZ5rD5XLeo2BklTJDZdBUaAvYaEALw_wcB

Good to know !!
I will check again with the shop that they build my Pc , maybe something went wrong !!

I forgot to mention that my UPS (800v) Shut down a couple of times and i had to plug my Pc directly into the wall ! Next week i will go ahead and buy a new more powerful Ups .

You can undervolt your GPU without sacrificing performance. Look at Youtube for undervolting with MSI Afterburner. No cost and pretty easy to do without any overclocking.

Thanks , i will have a look at it !

Every time I had a (big) hardware change I’ve reinstalled the whole thing. A fully clear windows Install did the job…
I know it’s tedious to install everything again, but’s it’s worth it…
But first, try reset MSFS graphic settings and see if this does the job…

What power supply do you have? If it’s not at least 1000W with a 3080Ti, that’s your problem. Also make sure your UPS can handle that kind of power.

doesn’t matter how many fans you have if they aren’t increasing in RPM under a load - if you are running MSI afterburner or similar you can ramp up the fan speeds. Many McPuter mfgs set the fans to run at their lowest settings to keep the case quiet - having heard that that is a selling point. They don’t care if your rig overheats as a result - they’ve already sold you the machine.
You really want water cooling if you can retrofit it - but definitely look into MSI Afterburner or similar if you don’t have that. You can set the fan speeds to increase under load. 85c is too hot
Don’t know if any of this will help you get better FPS but in general it will help prolong the life of any rig

Thank you all very much for your help and assistance !
Most probably is my Power supply .
The One that i have is Thermaltake PSU ToughPower XT/Modular 875 W !!
I may need as FusionHorse suggested 1000w , or on the other hand maybe my Cooler is the Problem here !! Today i saw Temperatures when i run my Msfs from 65C up to 90C !!
The One that i have is Thermaltake Frio CPU Cooler 12025mm Fan .
But No Pc Shutdown !!!

90oC is worryingly hot in my opinion.

if I read 90C , I would start with more fans or let them spin faster… ( thus the pc-case airflow and cooling ).

The PSU with 850W should be sufficent.

most users expect to much in point of single-core performance. The diff in both CPUs is not much here.

You should see more fps in e.g. camera view , because this is more GPU demanding.

But here we need may be some taskmanager diagramm, etc…

Did you buy the PC as a prebuilt or build it yourself?

I got an Alphasync 3090 prebuilt in December 2020, the PC is amazing but for some reason instead of using two cables from the power supply they chose to use just a single cable with a little splitter that plugged into the other GPU slot, so all the power was coming through a single cable.

Here’s a pic of the joke splitter to show what I mean;

It kept shutting down all the time. Plugging in another cable so that the card was getting the proper amount of power to it fixed it completely and it hasn’t crashed since.

Regarding temps, when you say 90 degrees, what part of the temps are you referring to? GPUz will give you your GPU temp, your VRAM temp and your Hot Spot temp. 90 for a hot spot under load would be very low, mine use to get up to 106 before I undervolted. 90 for GPU would be high, mine stays in the 70’s, with VRAM a bit higher. The hotspot is a pain though as it’s the hottest part on your card, and often thermal paste isn’t optimally applied so you could a cool card overall but there is a single hotspot due to inadequate thermal paste application that causes your fans to sound like a plane taking off and the card to throttle.

It’s worse with the 3090 than the 3080 and 3080Ti becuase of the 24 GB of VRAM but it could also be what’s causing yours to heat up.

Here’s a screen shot showing what mean, note my PC is currently idle, the temps get a lot hotter under load, but I think the GPU is low 70’s, VRAM high 70’s, and the hotspot will touch 100 then the fans kick in.

I have returned my Pc to the store were they build it , to have a look at it !
They have installed two more funs ( Total of 7 ) and increased the Speed of the Cooler !
Now i have temperatures 60 - 80 C !
I will continue to check and if the temp. are still high i will change my cooler !

There are some amazing air coolers out there these days, Noctua NH-D15 is the design most of them are kinda based on.

thats temps sounds better… please report back whether at least the pc shutdowns/reboots are then no longer happens

And also an additional note about “same fps, old vs new pc”. You can also check some benchmark tools whether your pc is within the expected range ( 3dmark, whatsever ). If the results are comparable with other systems with same hardware, we can only search some msfs settings which may cause that. Otherwise the issue is somewhere else…
