New release : Aerolite 103

You are absolutely right!
btw: i know its not a beta, but it seemed to me so - this should be recognized if they seriously tested it - thats why the sarcasm.

Trim it up 1 time

Ive been using VR for around 3 years now. For those who dont, its immersive and a common act that most of us have done at one time is drop a ā€œreal VRā€ controller on the seat next to us - well at least in VR there was a seat

I thought I was over all that… Well last night I had a wonderful flight just before sunset in the Aerolite over the New Forest in South England and Twice TWICE!!! I reached out with my left hand to rest it on the frame support!

I know its got a few bugs but its a joy to be in and that view is to die for.

it sounds like its powered by a home depot generator… :-1:

I sent them a request about making some changes to the sound so it sounds more like a rotax or hirth engine, and less like a gas generator, and they just gave me a snarky response. It has a lot of potentail to be a great aircraft if they would just listen to the community…

Agreed. In the right scenery and the right lighting conditions this really does give a sense of place like no other when using VR. The near unobstructed view is exactly why I bought it and from that perspective I’ve been really happy with the purchase.

I’d not encountered the sinking and the red plane bugs as I rarely start mid-air and don’t use the drone with this vehicle. But now I know of them it is a disappointment that the developer hasn’t provided updates or appears to be willing to provide support for their product. I’ll be very reluctant to buy a more complex product from them in future knowing fixes for discovered bugs won’t be forthcoming.

Tip for Aerolite fans: after the update put the aeleron authority on -0.70 that will stabilize the direction behaviour. When I take off I don’t give it full throttle just accelerate for a while, take off. Flaps back soon after taking off, compensate with some elevator for that (keep nose up) and climb straight for a while.

First time I actually need an adjustment to fly a plane like before the UK update.

If I don’t change it, keeping altitude and direction was very difficult, because the aileron (direction) seemed to do nothing in the middle region. The setting I found aeleron authority -0.70 solved that for me. I can fly down town again with it… nice and slow…

I like this aircraft. and Geraldar98 on flightsim.to of course… below a really romantic view of Nijmegen and he has more !

Just another aside playing around with Mobile Companion App you can actually set the altitude and the Aerolite will hold for longer flights. Heading has been a hit and miss for me.

I saw that this just got updated but can’t find a list of changes. Is anyone able to help me out?

I haven’t seen a list of what did change, but here’s some things that did not:

  • throttle still appears to be backwards
  • still moves backwards on startup sometimes
  • ailerons so incredibly slow-moving (maybe this is realistic but it feels really hard to steer, I don’t know)

The real killer, the ā€œinvisible fakeā€ retractable gear that meant if the sim thought your gear was ā€œupā€ you either crashed on landing with detection on or sunk into the ground with crash detection off is definitely fixed.

I have not had any issues with turning providing you do it correctly and use rudder. If you try and turn with just yoke and no rudder it wallows about like a fat cow but that is probably realistic. Just kick the rudder as you turn the yoke and it turns fine (just do not stall). The slip ball still works backwards though.

I do use the rudder. The ailerons take a long time to roll the plane, it rolls much slower than other planes. Do you not find this to be the case?

To turn effectively I have to push hard all the way to the side, and then wait a few seconds for it to roll to catch up with my rudder.

In a head-to-head comparison against DA62, it takes about twice as long to hit my roll target in the Aerolite 103 versus the DA62. (Having some trouble uploading my captures here as the file size limit is very low, but they’re a bit short for Youtube.)

So long as you have a bit of speed up it seems fine. Bare in mind nothing is going to have any aileron authority if you are travelling at a walking pace. But up around 50 or 60 it seems fine especially if you use rudder and pull back a bit on the stick to maintain height .

Of course it depends what you are comparing to it. It is not a Spitfire.

Did a quick flight with the patched version this is how it behaves for me.

50 or 60 is the speed I’m going.

How far are you angling the yoke/stick for those turns? (eg is it hard right/left or a modest amount?)

Your video looks about like how mine looks when I use hard full left/right yoke on all turns.

Not a lot, basically what you see in the video and none at all once the turn is established. My joystick profile is linear, I never use sensitivity on the joystick, but I cannot see that make a big difference, you can see teh yoke barely moves in the video.

I do use a fair kick of rudder to get started as it wallows a bit, it is one of those aircraft where you get crisper turns leading with rudder rather than stick/yoke. I also tend to pull back hard on the yoke in tight turns or it loses altitude and that tends to tighten the turn. If it starts to stall a kick of opposite rudder usually picks up the stalling wing.

nod ok now testing it more closely I can see that if I hit the rudder more aggressively at first, it dips on its own a lot better, and I don’t have to hit the ailerons nearly as hard. Thanks for the tip!

I’m still having some trouble rolling back to level when finishing the turn; at that point I have to apply more aggressive ailerons in the other direction, but it’s a fairly quick dip to maybe 80% hard one side, then a much more modest roll until level.

Ok, that helps.

(Side note – I love having some ultralights in the sim because I can’t qualify for the medical for a private pilot’s license. So having something I could legally fly one day – if suitably trained! – is pretty fun for me. )

Yeah I think light weight aircraft are a bit like this, the Bleriot in sim is the same, you almost fly with rudder not stick in the Bleriot.

Reversing a turn it does wallow a bit though again kicking hard with rudder back the other way helps.

Hello guys,

I have a big problem with the Aerolite 103.
I bought it a few weeks ago and it worked fine all the time.
Then I started the game two days ago and suddenly the plane wasn`t installed anymore!
A reinstall doesnĀ“t work. ItĀ“s always marked as ā€œnot installedā€.
All I can do ist to download the plane again and again after a restart of the game…

Has anybody the same problem or an solution for me?
