New Release: Carenado Cessna C170B

I have been flying this previously with just the steam gauges. I am interested, though, in seeing what the GPS can do but I haven’t figured out yet how to brighten the screen enough so that it’s useful.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I believe there’s a bug post SU6 with the GPS in the Carenado 170

Got it thanks. I spent some time looking at earlier YouTube reviews of this C170b and the GPS screen certainly looked a lot brighter than what I see on my system today.

Yes, after SU6, the brightness of the GPS is too dark.

Not sure if Carenado monitors these MSFS threads, but I just discovered a couple of other electrical related bugs on this C170B.

There doesn’t appear to be a Generator switch and the Ammeter seems to be totally none-functioning.

Just finished submitting something else totally unrelated to these issues to the MSFS Zen desk. So, I’m momentarily burned out with all the details required to submit a more formal bug report… LOL

Update:
Well not totally non-functioning on the ammeter. It does show discharge when the engine is not running, but no fluctuation with different loads/RPMs when the engine is running.

Since the C170B isn’t really VR compatible (bad mouse target issues, no mouse zoom, instruments with 2" diameter and an alleged “Aera” device that’s completely bogus and way to small to be of any use in VR) and it has an (to me) annoying loop error in the engine sound making me want to land and check the engine I wanted to delete the aircraft.

That didn’t work at all - after deleting it in Content Manager, only the entry in CM disappeared until restarting the sim, the files remained in the OneStore folder and it consistently refused to be deleted, so I had to delete the plane manually. I didn’t expect how much they can undercut their own low standards and get away with it at 4.5 stars in the Marketplace.

Isn’t there a brightness adjustment option? I do not own it, but C170B uses garmin Aera. A similar unit is in Asobo Husky that I have and there is an option to increase brightness in the settings menu in the unit itself.

Yes, there is one in the Cessna 170B too. Unfortunately, there is no way to move back to the other menu selections after changing brightness, at least not that I have found.

Since I’ve seen a few people posting about this recently, thought I’d give a bit of advice on the ‘electrical out in flight’ issue.

It’s a known issue that effects aircraft that don’t have a separate alternator switch on the dash… but there IS an alternator in the plane. After start you need to use a keyboard or other button command to turn it on.

Why this is I don’t know and I don’t know if there’s a solution or not (I can’t remember if the Aeroplane Heaven C140 has fixed this issue or not). It’s a minor annoyance, but not an insurmountable one.

That is precisely the issue. Asobo has added mechanics to dim/brighten avionics, but many 3rd parties don’t yet have any method of brightening implemented as of yet (no button assigned). Carenado will have to patch it.

So basically the “back” button does not work but the brightness adjustment work?

Yeah, you can get there, but it’s a dead end. Same with every menu on the 170.

Read my post a few screens up…
The GPS was broken in Sim Update 6.
Carenado says this is fixed in the next release.
No ETA.

Right on! Sorry, I missed that earlier post of yours, SkudSkipper7. Glad to hear that you previously elevated it directly to Carenado, too!
Thank you.

Good to know, Mizunumagaijin. Thank you.
BTW, there don’t happen to be keyboard mappings that might help work around the GPS issue are there?

Have noticed this, myself. It sounds slightly like the engine is cyclically dropping RPMs then regains them. A little disconcerting until you get used to it.

By the way, if anyone is interested in how the electrical system is supposed to work in this Cessna, here is an excellent reference:

Exactly! I’m an audio guy and things like that drive me nuts..err…more nuts.

Sometimes the sound varies in loudness, too.
I am currently flying other planes due to these issues.

Just curious.
Does anyone know what the function of that cylindrical device is, mounted on the right side of the nose? It looks kind of like an air-driven generator/alternator like those used on newer aircraft in the event of engine failure. But it seems way too small for that.
I am baffled.
