Personally, I would wait. Wish I had as I know what to expect from DD, but the lack of available airports for the area trumped my reservations. So after a quick look around, here are my observations:
Pros:
Cons:
If you value interiors and moving trains above airside development, then you will get that with this airport. Their products are mostly overpriced for what’s delivered. But they develop airports in areas I want to fly that other developers don’t touch, so I end up buying them. They have improved over time, but with the exception of the interiors, the rest of it if feels like a regression.
Yes, I gleaned from the trailer that the whole place (particularly landside) feels a little empty. DDT amaze me, in that they can use a good amount of custom GSE clutter in one scenery, then just a handful of default stuff in the next. The primary reason for this is actually less puzzling than it may at first seem: there is a library devs can use to buy custom assets to place in their sceneries; but I believe it only includes US-branded GSE at the moment. Still, DDT managed to conjure up a lot of custom Vietnamese GSE in their VVTS, so it remains a bit of a conundrum.
I’m not sure the V Pilot version’s any better. It’s a nice airport to have and Orbx offer a decent city pack. There’s also a shipping mod for the canal but I don’t recall the dev, off-hand.
DDT always showed potential but never quite made good on it. They remind me of Fly2 — who just got their act together, so maybe there’s hope…
If Sierra is working on this airport then I’ll wait… I own that VPilot’s version which is really old and not good at all. But till now it was the only option.
Thanks for sharing your experiences! To me, though, the jetways in the trailer look like custom models. Could that be a scenery conflict?
Yep, they’re definitely custom. The default SDK jetways are laughably stubby and unrealistic.
My mistake… Sierrasim are working on a reboot of Medellin. I could have sworn I saw something about MPTO the other day, that WASN’T DDT… but I could be wrong.
I should have said generic looking glass jetways. I’ll edit my post.
Ok, so I’ll go with this one because still it looks better than VPilot’s rendition.
Looks way better than the Vpilot scenery. I’m hoping for a good MROC next door.
Just tried it. Agree, the ground textures are very low resolution and everything is too flat. The hangar area and rwy 21 threshold is higher than the rest. Normally taxiing from that area towards the terminals is like a slide.
I am a dev from the project and confirm that it is real, we use custom DEM data method for terrain and the beginning of runway 12R is made high according to reality, taxiway E to the dhl cargo area has a slope taken from DEM data to be close to reality.
*I mean runway 21 R
I flew over so it could probably not be noticeable from that angle. Great job though. Can we expect an update on the ground textures?
We have increased the main ground texture to 4k resolution, however we have a problem with the pop up of the msfs24 lod system, we will find out the cause so we can improve it.
Just saw the downslope from 21R, it does look pretty real. Good to hear the textures will be improved.
Have you thought of making MROC?
MROC add to list , thank you
I’ll get this airport when it’s on Contrail. I can’t stand IniManager anymore…
Contrail don’t support DDT.
True. So it will be SimMarket then.
I’ve bought the airport as well. Generally speaking, I can confirm all the pros and cons mentioned by @Gulf76GT70 . The scenery has potential, but at the moment it has too many flaws and issues for me to recommend it. I find the interior perfectly adequate and well done for such a large airport. There are animated advertising boards in many places, though some of them flicker annoyingly. Overall, I quite like the terminal buildings, although I’d prefer some of the textures to be higher resolution. The ground textures aren’t bad everywhere, but in some areas they’re definitely too low-resolution. This also includes the low-resolution satellite images on the airport grounds.
For me, the lack of custom GSE is the biggest weakness (alongside the ground textures). The default boxes visible everywhere really don’t look good. For a scenery pack costing over 20 euros, I expect more, especially as VVTS offers custom GSE. It’s a shame when a certain standard isn’t maintained across all of a developer’s sceneries. I’m also bothered by the clearly visible gaps at some of the jetways. As is usual with DDT, the landside is very basic. I can live with that, though.
BATC seems to work in principle. However, on Runway 3R, aircraft come to a sudden, sharp stop after landing, only to then enter the first taxiway at far too high a speed. I’ve no idea whether this sort of thing needs to be optimised by the scenery or BATC.
As I do quite like some aspects of the scenery, I’m really hoping for an update @DOMINICGUDBOYYY . These would be my requests:
Custom GSE
Higher-resolution ground textures (apron and ground textures in general)
Optimisation of the jetways so that they have no gaps
Elimination of texture flickering in some places
Optimisation of BATC (if possible)
If these aspects were improved, I would generally be satisfied with the scenery. At the moment, I’m not yet.
