New Release : FlyingIron Simulations Spitfire L.F Mk IXc

I usually use around 6° right rudder trim & elevator trim down 1 notch (using the gauge on the dash) - It’s quite docile and has no tendency to swing violently unless you get caught in a gust.

I noticed that the fuel boost pump is now on by default so as you turn on the fuel cockpit, you immediately have fuel pressure. It always used to be off by default before.

The rudder tool tip was helpful, but if you left click and hold on the rudder trim wheel and use your mouse scroll to increase / decrease, you still get the same read out we always used to.

The canopy shutting can be rectified by latching the door. Open the canopy, click the door handle to latch it in place. This will prevent the canopy moving but it doesn’t fully open the door.

I also have the MFG Crosswind pedals - no issues with braking here. You can tweak your curves in the input settings if you want to.

That’s my experience as well, slowly went to 6 boost and roared down the runway the wing snap rolled onto the ground before I could compensate and then by the time I got the plane level again suddenly I was airborne.

Seems way more powerful than before. Or else I’m still absolutely trash at flying this thing

Is it safe to assume the Xbox WASM conversion will be changed back once SU10 arrives? Hopefully a quick changeover for you guys sake.

Between the last 2 updates, the sound in the cockpit did suddenly get quieter and would love a slight gain back on that, I miss the prominent grumble. Hopefully the re-balance fixes it a little.

Hope everyone’s enjoying the update so far!

Quick note on the increased take-off performance / acceleration. This was always a little too weak, now remedied and enabled by the new modern prop physics which has a much more correct thrust profile. The take-off roll has been tuned to real-world data and verified by an MkIX pilot.

For reference, two videos. Considering these are museum pieces, take-off boost gently increases to +4. This enables a quick tail lift in a few seconds, and take-off in about 14 sec. You will get the same performance with the update. You can take-off with +6 or even +12 once you can predict behavior better and get wartime scramble take-offs of under 10 seconds.
Do be aware of crosswinds of course, else the weather-vaning effect may catch you by surprise.

Practice practice

A few more

With brakes applied, a static Spit will start going nose-over between 2200 and 2300 rpm. This too has been carefully tuned. Also, you don’t brake a Spit to full stop, you let it roll out, preferably on grass (zig zag a little to add friction). If you must brake, give short taps. But again, do not use the brakes for the last part. Just roll out…

The tablet now has a few handy references for common power settings, including the ones used for disc braking (useful on approach). Check the Checklists / Miscellaneous page.
A few important ones: use disc-braking to slow down to 160mph so you can lower your gear. Do this by setting boost to -2 (or -3 if you’re on a slight descent), and prop pitch fully forward. Drop flaps at 140mph.
For final, you should have a boost of around -5 and prop pitch fully forward (gives about 2200 rpm when around 100mph). Gently flare, touch-down, and let her roll out (let the flaps slow you down, not the brakes). Once slowed down enough retract the flaps as they block radiator airflow (also modelled).

Seems like they put the fuel pump on by default.

Correct, this is to counter an issue with the CTRL-E Autostart which often refuses to turn on the pump. So we enable it by default. If you want to use the wobble, simply flip the fuel pump switch before moving your throttle forward (which would flick the battery switch).

It’s been recoded to sim native to remove the wasm, why would anyone undo that?

Oh! A tablet!
I’ve never seen it before!
Thank you so much !!!

With all this WASM stuff, I admit its getting increasingly hard to keep up with all the changes. So there’s no need to change back then is what you’re getting at?

Right. The release notes state this was specifically done to ensure XBox functionality matches PC compatibility across the board.

At this stage all I want is some consistency, any main coding stuff really gets the anxiety in me going. Great news moving forward. Now it’s safe to have a sigh of relief for once I hope.

What could be the reason if the tablet is not clickable for me?

Do you have the Heavy Division 787 mod? If so, remove it when you want to use a FlyingIron plane with the tablet.

Thanks a lot. That was it. Works now.

What a beaut -

anyone else notice that the canopy slides shut if you open it in flight (say when approaching the landing field) whenever you move the throttle?
I like to be able to open it and know the only way it’s closing again is if I close it…

**on every other note so far the flight characteristics are significantly improved - and I didn’t think that was possible. Take-off and landing on the initial flight after the update were both improved as was the general feel of the airplane. Thank you for the updated Spitfire!

Someone didn’t read the Release Notes.

This is one bullet point out of a very long list of updates, changes and improvements.

G-forces at work. In the real Spit too pilots need to leave the door unlocked or the canopy could slide shut if your nose is down or you decelerate hard enough. Part of the checklists too (taxi + approach), read them carefully

Never expected an improvement, but here we are: Great update!

My only problem so far is that I cannot pull the primer anymore. Regardless of which mouse button I click or hold, I can only lock/unlock the primer.

Also I get weird shadows/reflections left and right of the armoured windshield.
