New Release : FlyingIron Simulations Spitfire L.F Mk IXc

I was able to pull the primer after unlocking, maybe you need to zoom in to it a bit to get the clickspot on the face of the cap to work?

Beautiful aircraft and great support with quick responses to emails. Thanks FlyingIron.

I need to scroll with mousewheel over the primer to rotate it to unlock it.

yes - the mouse pointer will change to one of three icons - ā€˜rotate left’ or ā€˜rotate right’ or the ā€˜pointing finger’ - that last one will activate the primer plunger function provided you have already ā€˜rotated left’

the canopy doesn’t latch in the open position? But I can slide it back and then just unlatch the door (without opening it) and the canopy will then stay back…? ok

and no - I didn’t read every bullet point…at all…ever - mea culpa

Seem to have lost the engine start flame effect. Was this removed? or if not what do I do to get it back.
I disappeared after the last update, I think.

Correct, that’s how it’s done in the Spitfire. British ingenuity

I have flames, just started a few times to verify.

cantĀ“t get this work…to bad,i use teamspeak

Is this being recorded?

Same here!

My pointer does not change unfortunately.

Love the Spit, seriously fun to fly! One thing though, surfaces inside the cockpit are lit up by the sun (and flicker) even if they are in the shade. Anyone else see this?

I’ve seen that mentioned in the Twin Otter feed. I believe someone said it’s a known sim issue.

I’ve seen it happen in other aircraft aswell, but not as visible. Not a deal breaker

Cant’t even start it now. No problem before. Following Pad checklist:

  • Park brake - set on.
  • Battery - on.
  • Props - full fwd.
  • Carb air filter - fwd.
  • Fuel - on.
  • Mixture - cut off.
  • External tank - off.
  • Throttle - open 1/2".
  • Booster/wobble pump - light never comes on anymore. Tried both puping and not do it.
  • Primer - as required. What does that mean? Can set it to locked or underprimed…tried both. But how do I actually prime the engine - ie ā€˜pump’ fuel into cylinder intake…full left (underprimed)?
  • Start&booster covers - open.
  • Mixture - full rich.
  • Magnetos - on.
  • Starter and booster - engages both…propeller spins slowly, engine doesn’t start.

Started fine that way before. On the left side there is a fuel switch pump. Tried it on and off…
And what does the fuel tank pressure cock do? Then one down right side - on or off. Can’t find info abt it in the manual…Also checked I have fuel. Setting it in the Pad, and it changes in msfs. Pressing ā€œbottom tankā€ confirms fuel.
Giving up - Ctrl-E works, but prefer a manual start  …

The problem may be that your engine isn’t primed. There are a couple of controls for the primer pump. Watch the cursor. If the curved arrow is showing, use the mouse scroll wheel to lock or unlock. Then position the cursor right over the knob. It should display a finger pointer. When that shows, use left click to move the pump and prime the engine. You can count the pumps using the manual as a reference, or watch the tooltip. When the engine is correctly primed, it will switch from ā€œunderprimedā€ to ā€œready.ā€ You should be good to start.

Hope this helps.

Tnx mate. Absulutely. As you suspected - not primed.
A bit confusing. Im using the ā€œlockā€ (cockpit interaction system) and not ā€œlegacyā€. In ā€œlockā€ it never shows the hand symbol on the primer.
Had to press left mouse AND right mouse to ā€˜pump’ the primer. Then it primed.
Tnx!

Ah, got it! Glad you got it working. I tried the lock system once, then went back to legacy, so I wasn’t even thinking of what the technique might be if you were using lock.

The update to the Spitfire’s fuel system is similar to what the P-38 got in its last update. Much more detailed modeling, and priming is now a requirement though it wasn’t before.

To answer a couple of your other questions - the fuel pressure light goes off now when you start the battery because the fuel pump (forward-most of the three switches on the left) is now on by default. No need to use the wobble pump, though you can - but you have to turn off the pump first.

The fuel tank pressure cock is for use at altitude - above 12,000 feet.

Again, hope all that helps - enjoy the Spit!
