New Release : FlyingIron Simulations Spitfire L.F Mk IXc

As far as I know, I’ll check again when I get home from work. I usually set everything to realistic everywhere i find it, but the last update might have reset it and I missed it.
Thanks for the headsup.

I have custom views set up to look out the left and right side as much as possible, but you could also just use the left/right arrow keys. IRL they’d also open the canopy and I guess that would allow them to see even more but in the sim we seem to be limited to keeping our head inside the cockpit even if the canopy is open, so a curved final is often easiest.

This is a lot easier in VR, open door and lean waaay out while on final…

Does it let you lean out of the cockpit? Because you certainly can’t do that with the cockpit cam controls.

Yes indeed you can, Im not sure about 2D, as I never fly the spit in 2D…. Flying the spitfire in VR is the most relaxing thing…. Except for landing…. I need more practice….

Just you and the spit amongst the clouds and maybe I find some other aircraft to form up on…. Ahhhh, now I wish I had time to fly tonight. :frowning:

Love all the warbirds, but the Spit is definitely a fav. I got the Hellcat in the sale and that thing is pretty cool too. Tough to decide which sounds better, but the Spit definitely looks better (in terms of styling, both have been modelled by FI superbly).

Google « Overhead break landing ». It is a circular approach which gives you a reasonably good view of the runway.

Thx, interesting stuff!

It is a fun technique. You zoom through the approach, break to lose most of the momentum (speed) and finish in a glide. It was invented, as I recall, to land on carriers, Corsair and other WW2 big-nosed fighters. Keeping the speed in check is key !

That does look like some very dangerous fun. I’ll be trying that out…

This means turning sharply and pulling the stick?

Yes, I would enter the whole thing at about 180 mph and stay at the pattern altitude to be below 160 after the 180 ° turn to the downwind leg to be able to drop the flap and then the gear. Still at the same altitude I would be at 130 or less to turn base and finish with no or a smidgen of power . Point is don’t be below 105 and fall into an irrecoverable spin.

Caveat : I am no pilot  but I love warbirds

Actually it is less dangerous than landing blind

Done a couple of attempts now, and this works quite well. Now I only need to work on eliminating the bounce at landing…

Love flying this bird, beautifully made and great sounds.

For the bounces it is a sign of excessive speed, you should stall on the runway. Easier said than done. Don’t tell me .

The FI Spit is a great bird and it is nice to see that it is a WIP, FI has been regularly improving her since the release

I use trackIR in 2D, and you can lean way out if you want to. But I agree, VR is where the Spit shines. So much fun leaning out while taxiing, and easier to judge wind and speed on landing.

Here’s some crazy fun to try in a Spitfire…

It’s possibile to have hidden cannons by default? [i won’t mind editing some file]

click on them when you are in the cockpit

by default
