New Release : FlyingIron Simulations Spitfire L.F Mk IXc

You can actually do it without the tank pressure valve. Electric pump is enough for an engine start - on my system at least. IRL the tank pressure valve is for use at altitude. More to the point, it doesn’t seem to be a dependency for startup in the current Flying Iron build. Hope this helps.

It’s possible but wrong procedure. The electric fuel pump is only supposed to be used when the engine is already running, from what I’ve read.

Maybe. The procedures are a little muddy because the aircraft we have is a mid-production compromise. The early Mk. IX’s had only the wobble pump, and the late ones had only the electric pump. In the middle of the run, the electric pump was introduced as primary, but the wobble pump was retained as a backup. Given all that… it’s possible that the electric pump was on for start-up, same as in so many other period fighters, then kept off except for takeoff and landing. What makes it even harder to figure out is that, contrary to what I posted above, there was also a procedure for charging the fuel line using the tank pressure valve - but it was supposed to be shut off before engine start.

In all, it seems like there was a lot of improvisation going on - probably not surprising given life on the front lines.

Plus this is a game and you can use auto start or start in mid air if you so wish
