New release : McGill University Arctic Station, Axel Heiberg Island, Nunavut

Hi All,

This is a new freeware scenery of the McGill University Arctic Research Station (MARS) on Axel Heiberg Island, Nunavut, Canada

The station is located 8 km inland, at Expedition Fjord. Research activities include glaciology, climate change, permafrost hydrology, geology, geomorphology, limnology, planetary analogues and microbiology. For example, the study of the survival of microbes on the planet Mars was studied there.

The scenery includes:

  • The main buildings of the station.
  • Some vehicles used in summer and end of winter. The base is closed in winter due to lack of sunlight for the solar panels.
  • The landing strip. Kenn Borek’s DHC-6 flights originate from Resolute Bay (CYRB).
  • A second camp 8 km away, near the bank of the fjord.
  • Two research sites on saline springs sites where you can bring people, food and stuff : Loast Hammer Spring and Stolz spring.
