This collection of flight plans is an attempt to recreate our 3-week New Zealand road trip holiday from October 2019 – our first visit to New Zealand, and sadly our last trip anywhere before the Covid lockdowns. It’s purely intended as scenic GA VFR flying so may not comply with proper procedures in many places. This is my first attempt at creating any flight plans using LittleNavMap, so I hope you enjoy them and forgive any mistakes I may have made.
The 13 flights mostly follow the itinerary of our road trip. We flew into Auckland where we spent a couple of days looking around the city before hiring a car and heading south. After a fantastic 16 days, we left from Christchurch to attend a conference in Sydney before heading home to Scotland.
Along the routes, I have waymarked places where we either stayed or visited, and have included a few scenic detours to make things more interesting, and to take in some of the LOTR/Hobbit locations. I recommend installing any of the excellent freeware NZ sceneries and airports that are available, and it’s also worth purchasing the OrbX mesh upgrade, which greatly enhances the mountain flying, even if it does cause some elevation glitches at ground level. There are good payware NZ sceneries available too, but I didn’t use any of them when testing the flights.
