Nice as it is, not currently playing and here's why

The scenery quality is hit and miss and I find it distracting. Home town, a major city with population of like 1M, is nearly unrecognizable. From a distance is worse, blurry 2d flat scenery from 1998.

The wind is hit and miss. Most of the time, on the Garmin units it reports around 225 at 1-3 knots, and does not change its numbers even in response to a massive wind gust that nearly tips the plane over. Wouldn’t a massive gust affect the readings?

There also seems to be no rhyme or reason to the gusts and changes in wind that you feel. It just occurs at random. Not once have I been able to say hey that sure was gusty crossing that threshold or peak or whatever.

Performance is actually okay for a 1070ti, but it’s obliverating my card, even in menus, I don’t know how long my hardware is going to last in those conditions

Use of caching does not improve scenery quality or performance at all. There is no noticeable effect and it takes forever to set up.

Due to the very poor installer and Microsoft store implementation, as of the first patch the game is occupying, for no apparent reason, a ridiculous 400GB of drive space in two locations. Nobody can seem to make sense of how or where this title actually installs. Like I said before.. you can easily see which deliverables of this product were entrusted to Microsoft teams to implement.

Their advice? Apparently reinstall. It took about 9 Hours the first time. As it spun my hardware at 100% the entire time - 9 hours - for no reason, and you can’t use your machine for anything else the whole day. No. Never again. Redesign your installer.

Had some amazing Looking flights, but honestly as far as how the whole thing handles, on full realism, I can fly through anything and land pretty much anything one-handed, no rudder, like a complete maniac. What’s missing here? I should not be able to pull off any of that so carelessly. No way.

I could do an 8 hour flight somewhere with absolute ease right now. But why would I do it if it has no challenge and I know basically nothing could possibly prevent it from being 100% as planned?

I think I’m going to finish some other games first then circle back and see what’s been fixed and improved.

That’s my take on the experience anyways. It is a different story for almost every single person.

On a positive note, the way the weather Looks is just incredible. It is almost worth doing flights for that single feature alone. This includes how it behaves visually, how every scene looks different and unique and how it morphs and develops just like real weather. Truly next gen stuff there. Now it needs to affect your flight.

Well there is no way it should be taking up that much space. Unless you downloaded a ton of manual cache. And I mean a TON. Most people are looking at right around 100gb or so for the initial install. Might be a bit higher if you raise your rolling cache limit. Basically it should be around 93 gb plus whatever you set your rolling cache limit to. Default is 8gb.

Sounds like something went horribly wrong with your install so yes I would suggest wiping it all off and starting over.

As for the flying part of it, it sounds like you have a bunch of assists on that you don’t want to use. Like auto rudder and that kind of stuff. After you re install it I would go through and make sure all that stuff is set to off or whatever the most realistic setting would be. I would also check to make sure it is on the correct flight model. Maybe some how you ended up in legacy mode?

I can only hope that whatever they fixed with this new patch helps you with the install process and it goes smoothly for you.

Or try to get a refund and don’t mess with it if you are that displeased with the experience. It did that with Xplane when it first came out. I wasn’t impresse at all and after contacting steam they gave me a refund even though I was over the amount hours played to get one.

I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide.
