They’re never going to please 100% of the people. Just look at the comments in this thread:
1 is saying that all the lights are the same yellow boring colour now, and wants the coloured lights back.
Another is saying they feel they can see the highway lights from unrealistically far away.
Then people comment who don’t like the different coloured lights.
They’re going to have to find a happy medium.
About the doubled up and/or floating lights; those seem to be localized bugs. I haven’t run into any of those myself yet.
Red blobs are supposed to be tail lights I believe.
I kind of liked the sepia to be honest, it might have been a bit overdone, but it definitely felt like what ive seen looking out of an airplane window at night when looking at distant cities and such.
Why don’t they put an option for this in game? Night Light Density and Night Light Brightness? Then everyone adjusts it to what they feel is the correct value. Right now to me seeing 10 miles of street lights looks silly, not to mention the double lights that some are even hovering above each other to achieve this effect in today’s patch. When people have different opinions on something just put a slider for it in options.
I appreciate Asobo’s efforts, but I’d agree that the current lighting update is a step backwards. It’s just too sharp and defined, and needs more of the diffusion that was present before the patch.
These are all country roads, NONE of them should have lights, it looks awful, worse than any sim I’ve ever played. So glad I do almost all my flying VFR during the day.
No kidding. My other hobby outside of gaming is astrophotography. I have a nice dark spot a nice drive out of the city I go to practice my craft. It’s out in the country at the end of a dirt road by a lake. I decided to fly over it at night to check it out. There are so many street lights it would be like shooting from the city. The 3 old barns near my spot (which have no electricity even near them) are lit up light Christmas trees.
Basically that’s the programing trick they did to increase lighting. Add more bulbs, but the problem was some didn’t get added in the old bulb spot and/or color is different.
this is absolutely clear, and I’ve been in this forum for a very long time - and I never said “this is ■■■■ - this is ■■■■” but only gave a constructive opinion !
the fact is: LOD of the single lamps is too small, lights are completely straightened at high UWD resolutions or tripple screens (almost useless at 5760x1080), double lamps float in the air (counter solution reduced sepia mask, probably) also the lights on the rural roads. think the reduction of the sepia mask is good too, never said anything else, in the cities, the individual street lights are too undefined at distances etc.
As you can see in the official screenshots of the earlier versions, but you are not allowed to talk about them - there are other solutions that just look more “realistic” and you know how to do it - you
could “combine” them ! they are facts and no “taste competition” !!
BR !
if you compare the screenshots and I guess you use a resolution of 1920x1080 the lamps look quite good - but if you look at my screenshots you can see these “huge” lamps on the ground, my settings are also set to “ultra”, except render scale 100%, and they look “harmless” on the screenshot, because I resized the image - and that worked better before !
well, quite honestly, then you could say something like that about everything:
if people say “the performance is bad” you could say: buy a better computer !
the LOD of the trees is too small: “never mind, I like it that way”
my controllers are too sensitive: “buy some that are not so sensitive”.
I have constant “crashes” - buy the one RIG that works ! etc. etc.
then you don’t need a forum -
again, I’m just saying that the size of the lights changes with resolution (was different before) is a bug and has been reported - LOD is too small (fact) - too many lights on the rural roads - fact -, lights are floating in the air (bug) - nothing else was the core of this topic !
It was accurate (speaking from close to 13 thousand hours of airline flying experience) before the patch, it now looks like a previous generation computer game.
I just tried getting airborne from Heathrow on a clear dark night and the whole of the South East of England is one continuous set of lights, with zero definition between towns, cities villages etc. All roads are brightly lit.
Those people saying it’s better have clearly never been anywhere an airplane cockpit at night.
What on Earth are they thinking? I’m praying that someone in the community can find a way to roll back this mess to what was there before.
With all the issues this game has, WHY are they meddling with things that weren’t broken in the first place?!
I agree with people here. Judging from the screenshots, everything looks like powered by 10 nuclear power plants and glowing like Las Vegas 2.0, all on the same color too. Why did they change the night lighting? It was very nice before.
Can anyone show before/after comparisons, for example regarding the the rural roads?
I don’t think Asobo has the metadata about whether roads have light or they don’t.
Let alone people here complaining that some random barn has no electricity but lights in the sim- I mean, wtf do you expect?
Maybe at some point they figure out a way to have street lights only inside city boundaries and additionally have moving lights randomly created to simulate cars (density could even depend on the time of day). That would be the best approach to not have entirely dark areas between cities but also not that christmas lighting as it is now.
That being said, I’ve flown a leg at night yesterday and don’t really mind that much. But clearly there is much more work needed to get close to realism.
I do think it’s tad overdone, but certainly a bit better than before. All they need is to adjust amount of lights on country roads and it will be perfect.
