It’s easy after a patch to imagine that something has changed when it is the same as it’s always been.
With that in mind, the night lighting seems to have improved markedly after todays patch. The airfield beacons and runway lighting seems to look much more realistic too. Am I seeing something that’s always been that way? I’m convinced it’s changed for the better!
I think an improved update to the night lighting is due on the next patch. It would be nice if it has been changed earlier, not had chance to try the new update yet. But there were more important things to tackle first even though I’m looking forward to lighting fix at high altitude.
Very pleased with night lighting since this update. Loving the contrast between high levels of light pollution in the cities to the sheer darkness in countrysides.
I still think that sunrise/sunsets in low visibility are a bit too epic / tropical. The pic below was taken in the UK earlier today. (Yes that’s right, the UK )
It has definitely changed. Runway lights are no longer visible from 50 miles in all directions, but are visible from 8-10 miles during the day if you’re in line with the runway.
Beacons are good, but is still like to see them spawn further away.
Night lighting is great in that wilderness is pitch black and cities luminous value is reduced.
It’s a great step in the right direction and is really welcome to see.
yea, let’s have someone actually verify. The issue with night lighting, as I understood it, was the way cities look at night – with a sepia (?) filter… hope I’m saying that right.
If it WAS changed, why wouldn’t Asobo market that in patch notes? That’s a pretty big change?
Because they said in their dev update that it was on their back-burner to fix. Maybe it still is and they’re seeing if this level of fix calms the mood.
Lol, some people saying night lighting is better, others saying no more lightning with few clouds, other saying the trees lod is fixed, guys its ALL PLACEBO, they didnt touch any of those in this update.
Sadly nope!, Lights bulbs are no longer being reflected in the water…sad!. And there is not any change in night lighting, at least not regarding the terrain emitting light.
They 100% absolutely positively fixed runway lighting being visible at all angles from 50 miles. Only runways that you are aligned with will show approach lights.
It’s been that way since it was released and I’m not the only one with the issue. Many many bug posts about people wishing for runway lights to not be visible from every angle. I had also reinstalled once to fix a different issue and it persisted beyond the install.
That particularly is definitely different. Before you could see airport lighting & beacons from miles away, flying to EGBB last night it looked completely realistic. The airport completely blended into the city until you were within approx 10NM and pretty much aligned with the runway.
I tested this today- runway lights and airports are just as annoying at night now as they were before. I don’t see any change- especially as I cruise at higher altitudes.
