I just took a look at the new night lighting, and it’s worse than before. Highway lights are just as ugly as X-plane, and now cities are too dark- no saturation, no real luster.
What the heck?

This is getting beyond a joke now, every patch is making the sim progressively worse. Yes, the photogen and clouds look pretty - but apart from that, it’s turning out to be a failure. For such a major development to be rated 3* out of 5 in the store is an embarrassment. MS are still concentrating on irrelevant bugs, like the marketplace (hmm I wonder what that would be so important?) … but failing the address the big problems, aircraft systems not working, weather not working, CTD etc . And yes , the night lighting is worse.
I completely agree. One of the MSFS2020 selling points for me was the realistic night graphics, which has completely gone away now. When we fly, we shouldn’t see the individual light bulbs because they are covered, we should only see the reflection from ground and objects. The street lights should not be omnidirectional. Runway edge lights should be omnidirectional, but the street lights shouldn’t.
I know that Asobo has tried to fix the glowing ground effect seen from high altitudes, but they shouldn’t have broken the low altitude experience. Very disappointed!
Maybe developers could jump on Google and search for some night pics? There’s only like a billion out there- you know, for reference
It shouldn’t be this difficult.
Yes, it’s worse, NIGHTS ARE NOT PITCH BLACK! Especially in open fields, get out sometimes and see how the world looks!
I’m surprised that the devs have listened to people who don’t even know how real life looks…
You’re funny. You fly I take it?
Get up to cruising altitude and compare shots in the sim with what we see in RW- this is no good. But to each his own.
Also, nowhere in the world that I’ve flown at night do we see bright airport taxiway or runway lighting above a few thousand feet or off in the distance.
Yeah… I’m a GA pilot (IRL.) My cruising rarely exceeds 9500 feet MSL.
OP says cities are too dark, half the rest of the forum says it’s way too bright.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
I’ll be happy with a utility that allows us to make changes ourselves. This is like X-plane the sequel here, and none of it looks RW by any stretch of the imagination. It was better before, just needed to be a tad darker and more saturated imo.
I think this specific scenario looks pretty good.
Hello,
I have moved this out of Wishlist section into General Discussion & Feedback.
I really couldn’t understand your point,if u could please explain? Infact the street lights are brighter now even at higher altitudes. What do u mean by too dark?
I think the new patch has made the world too bright at night. Unless I adjust the time to a point when there’s no moon, and increase clouds to full overcast (and with high altitude tops), the world, even where there is almost no light pollution, is very illuminated, as if the air itself is giving off light.
