Night Sky/Ozone Layer too bright - Hyper-exaggerated Milky Way

Absolutely :100:

If I must chime in, while yes there are regions where light pollution is not that much and you are able to see stars and the Milky Way much more better. However in a heavily populated areas, Los Angeles, Seattle, United Kingdom, Germany, and so on all have cities with heavy light pollution where you can barely see any stars let alone the Milky Way even at FL240-FL420. Trust me from experience here.

No it also has nothing to do with “monitor settings” and adjusting it. The skybox at night in some areas of the sim are way too exaggerated and need to be adjusted. X-Plane 12 does this really well where the skybox especially in really light polluted areas you can not see the stars let alone the Milky Way.

This seems to be significantly improved in the last few betas - seems like they’ve made some changes to night lighting looking up, not just the sepia mask stuff looking down.

No, that’s not what I mean. Long exposure in respect of gathering more light…. Not just to match what the human eye can see. This is overdone ‘mostly’

howcome this topic has almost 50 votes but isn’t logged whatsoever?

How long was that exposure?

My guess would be < 8 seconds. Anymore than that, the stars will streak, and the already look a bit blurred. Also looks like the ISO is at least 1600 by the grain in the clouds. Cloud be higher, but depends on the camera.

But yes, the milky way is way overdone IMO at night, but it is something I am more than willing to overlook if they would just make night actually darker and continue to make improvements to the night.

Please fix this asap (SU4 .21)

That is not nightflying, its day flying!

Clouds are completely dark if you are nowhere near city lights, but even small towns can light up the clouds above. In fact your planes strobe lights will make them pulse, even if they are miles away.

The clouds are a bit exaggerated, but I do agree, they should be lit up and are fine. But they do not light up the ground as muchs as they do in that pic, making all fields CLEARLY visible

The moon is strong light source irl, and will clearly light up ground and clouds when 50%+.

Pic I took of shallow fog not long ago - moon 80ish%:
