No more new features, fix the performance issues

Of course it’s great to get more and more new features and world updates. But… I’m with the Simulator from the first minutes (alpha tester and VR Beta) and I noticed that the major performance problems are still there! Especially systems with good specs have problems and I think this is a major problem that should get main priority. But when I see the update plans there seems the performance problem not have any priority. I don’t get it. I think performance is the most important part of the simulation. Especially in VR.
Am I right or is it just my feeling that performance problems is not in Asobos priority list. It would be great to ask about this in the next Q&A. That would be amazing

I’d just like it to stop having to reinstall every time they update it! Also the content manager flakes out after downloading a gig or so…So frustrating… it’ll be great one day but right now it’s a time soak. Please please look at reliability first.

In fairness they’ve said multiple times performance improvements are ongoing. Specifically in the last Q&A they said there’s a tonne of stuff they’ve found that can be optimised and improved upon to come before the xbox release.

I also think they should also look into the performance issues, maybe the next sim update is going to solve some major issues in that field, eg stuttering over dense areas etc.

How about we trade out the Disney cruise ship announcer that they use for ATC and replace with real-world bleary-eyed, coffee-drinking, high-speed monotone voices? LOL!

There are continuous performance tweaks in every patch and Directx12 should bring a big performance increase. The issue is not everyone is having performance issues and to stop adding features for those without issues while they cater only to those who do would be a mistake.

I hope people aren’t going to be too disappointed about this if it doesn’t happen. Asobo stated this was more about features, rather than performance. That, and XBox compatibility.

I try and drop this in when this pops up from time to time, as I can see a potential backlash here, with folks saying “But you said we’d get a performance boost!?”, when they never did.

It sets up dangerous expectations, and it would be worth going back to that Q&A to see what they actually said.

I agree with you to a degree. Its not a miracle cure, but it will offload some of the jobs currently performed by the CPU to the GPU as it utilises more modern jobs the way they should be. If people are expecting to double their frame rates or even get 15-20 FPS out of it they might as you say be disappointed but when it comes to MSFS because of its generally low frame rates and the fact that its less reliant on 60 FPS gameplay like a fast paced FPS etc i sort of consider a 5 FPS general increase to be a “big improvement” so i suppose it depends on your stance. You are right though, its not going to be night and day, but it should certainly improve the landscape

People generally have better GPUs than CPUs, for every 1 CPU i upgrade i go through about 4 GPU’s, it will certainly benefit people who are currently CPU bound.

I dont think they are ignoring performance issues.
I think they are treading the line carefully between community demands and fixes. The work is progressing and the team has provided regular updates every step of the way. People are always going to argue about priorities.

Those are most likely two different aspects worked on by different specialised people. The team who is responsible for the world update works together with Gaya. It is reasonable to assume that they know a lot about 3D modelling, meshs and everything to do with scenery, while they probably have little to do with the inner workings of the program. So asking for less content has little or nothing to do with fixing performance issues. I expect those guy to be busy with the XBox version and implementation of DirectX 12 at the moment. So my money is on the theory that we will see only slight changes in performance, while a major update in summer will hopefully will bring the rest.

should get Kennedy Steve.

Performance is fine and much better than legacy sims. Bring on the features.

Nice idea, and what does anyone who doesn’t normally speak English do? Must be bleary-eyed, coffee-drinking to understand?

Frankly there don’t seem to be any performance issues for the overwhelming majority of customers. So what should they do about it?
Performance is remarkably fine, even in VR.

More features, especially the promised ones and also the consolidation of SDK tools for the army of addon developers should be top priority for Asobo now.
Performance issues on your computer are indeed priority for you and we all hope you can improve your configuration and/or adjust your settings positively.

For you maybe but not for me, this Sim clearly needs a lot of optimisation performance improvements in various areas, which as Asobo have said (latest Q&A) will come in time.

Posts like yours are confusing people around here. Most of us with powerful specs are struggling to hit 30 fps constant with no stutter. I run a I9900 with and a 3090 and although I do enjoy VR clearly the main thread cpu bottleneck can be still worked on by the devs.

Totaly agree with you Andre ! :+1:

I agree that there can still something be worked on by the devs, like you said. Yet this is quite a different statement than the OP’s “no more new features” attitude.

How does your post not confuse people? You spit out “30 fps” and didn’t add any situation description. If you struggle to maintain 30 fps crossing the Atlantic, where it is water to the horizon and sky clear, then I can understand your problem. If you complain to experience some stutters and dropping below 30 fps overhead Central park, NYC, than there is no performance issue at all. I am on a midlife I7-8700 and RTX2080, I would be happy to enjoy 30 fps in downtown NYC.

The truth is, 30 fps is not a bad number at all over congested scenery with most settings on ultra. Occasional stutters and fps < 60 are totally normal for high fidelity flightsims and we can assume that the majority around here will never see more than 30 fps in a dense environment.

I guess many people new to flightsims, who entered this genre only with MSFS, simply can’t accept this, since they are so accustomed to gaming way beyond 30 fps.

There are people around here who struggle to accept that they wasted money big time by purchasing the latest 3090 and yet only see moderate improvements. I don’t see what Asobo could do so much about their destroyed expectations. Demanding to stop new features to have Asobo concentrate on “fixing” issues of some customers’ sadness regarding their recent Nvidia purchase is somewhat questionable, don’t you think? They could as well blame nvidia for this and demand to stop new card rollouts until new drivers fix these issues with their 3090 cards. Good luck with that I guess…

If you think 30 fps are too low, you have several settings in the sim available to reduce. Easy fix for the “issue”.

Downgrading is what you ask for, to play VR. Please Asobo, the vast majority of users do not use VR, so please add more visual fidelty instead of ‘optimizing’ (aka downgrading) even further.

I have ment 30fps in VR environment. Otherwise I can hit over 100. Saying that stutters and a slide show feel is still there at times. The code can be worked on for sure. Vulkan will be helpful if implemented and also Dx12 …which I understand is beeing worked on.
