No new aerials 2024?!

Hello - I now agree with and confirm I don’t see new aerials in 2024 as promised. Another let down. Didn’t the global event recently have a slide show saying all new aerials were coming. At least for the US and new data for TIN etc.

Well Chicago is still generic west of Ohare. And St. Louis near lambert airport, a place I also go in real life, is not reflected as new in sim. Simulator shows an empty construction lot and in reality, for a few years now, this area has been redeveloped. Where is it? Looks now different than 2020

We need jorg to comment on aerials and what’s going on

I do recall hearing a rumor on this forum the new aerials and TIN cities that were supposed to drop for both 2020 and 2024 simultaneously were delayed.

I don’t know if there’s any official statement on when we can expect it, but like everything else with 2024 it’s likely just incomplete and will be delayed a long time beyond what any of us like.

Hmmm. While delay is frustrating. In a way I hope the rumor is correct and would prefer an official statement. I say that because then there’s still hope for updated imagery to come.

@Vibstronium The only think I can think of is I read a post after the global event that Jorg said the shared world would be delayed 1-2 months. I remember that for sure. But I thought I heard it was said that the new world would be delayed for 2020 only, thus the two sims would have different aerials for a while. But maybe im wrong or it changed because clearly a number of people reporting not seeing updated views or cities as shown from the global event slide show.

I have a separate wish list post to expand photogrammetry for Chicago west of ohare. My hometown. I was excited as the global event maps alluded to this area being improved. So I’m holding out hope it does.

There’s no specific 2024 aerials, both 2020 and 2024 would use the same data, which makes sense as they are both using Bing data.

However, even if there’s newer Bing data out there, it doesn’t mean they can just toss it into the sim(s) and it just works. Hence there’s a lot of effort that goes into the World Updates, to ensure it works in the sim.

I dont think there using bing data anymore its now maxar so many get this wrong now haha…

So many people just chew info and spit it out without verifing

Yeah there are multiple data providers used, Bing Maps, Maxar, Vexcel etc, but the point remains, that it’s used for both 2020 and 2024.

Yeah I remember it sounding like they were implying 2024 would have up to date aerials and 2020 wouldn’t but that didn’t make sense given they were previously saying there’s a shared world between 2020 and 2024, which seems confirmed by the fact that we see nothing new in either 2020 or 2024. I’m pretty sure they just meant the update would be delayed for both, which is what we see today.

I see mine in OKC

That picture may show something but in the screenshots that I and others have put it clearly isn’t showing anything new compared to what’s in 2020

Hopefully we get a official comment

I believe we’re talking about “aerial photography” (the texture imagery that goes on the ground and the photogrammetry geometry and textures), not antennas (“aerials”).

The satellite imagery in southeastern Wisconsin was definitely updated. I’m not sure if any photogrammetry has been updated. I haven’t seen/noticed it.

Lol I’m glad I kept of reading because I almost typed a message saying “it’s an antenna not a little mermaid” :joy:

this is photogrammetry, it comes aerial textures of its own
unrelated to bing satellite imagery

It is definitely newer in 2024, atleast in some parts of the world. My local airport got updated imagery, but 2020 is still on the old imagery.

So something isn’t working right or a very incomplete update unlike what they promised. So would really like official eyes on this from dev team to advise

guessing here but i think its pretty obvious, the new imagery wasn’t ready in time, but im sure its coming… further down the line

Hope so hope so. If true fine, just want confirmation so we as users can stop guessing and have official roadmap of a product we paid for based on prior promises. Hopefully all will come clear over the next month

My local airport now has one of it’s runway extended which was finished prior to the release of 2020. I assume that updated imagery has something to do with this however there is a road that I drive on quite often to get to and from work that is still showing it’s expansion as under construction. This too was finished prior to the release of 2020.

I did not have FS2020 but silly me, I incorrectly assumed that the textures would be at least from 2020 or newer.

My neighborhood shows large developments built in 2018 still as open fields.
