No official statement on whether Deluxe or Premium Deluxe add-ons from MSFS 2020 will transfer over to MSFS 2024

Hi. I am making a new thread because there is a lot of confusion about whether Deluxe or Premium Deluxe add-ons for MSFS 2020 owners, will carry over to MSFS 2024. This is leaving owners of Deluxe or Premium Deluxe confused on which version to buy for MSFS 2024.

First and foremost, nothing in the MSFS 2024 FAQ states that content (ie. planes and airports) for owners of Deluxe or Premium Deluxe versions of MSFS 2020, will carry over to MSFS 2024:

That FAQ has a section on “purchases users have made from the Marketplace,” but the wording is specifically for Marketplace purchases, and not for content from Deluxe or Premium Deluxe versions of MSFS 2020. So Marketplace purchases wil carry over from MSFS 2020 to MSFS 2024, according to the FAQ. But nothing is said about Deluxe or Premimum Deluxe MSFS 2020 content. For example, for Premium Deluxe owners of MSFS 2020, will the 787 carry over to MSFS 2024 if we purchase the Standard Version of MSFS 2024?

Furthermore, to compound the confusion, this thread here is marking the “solution” that content from Deluxe or Premium Deluxe will carry over, from a user named Sartanius. But Sartanius is not official staff from Microsoft. Worse, no staff from Microsoft has refuted Sartanius, leaving people to read that thread, and see that the thread has been “solved” by a random user. I do thank Sartanius for his response in that thread, but that is not an official statement from Microsoft, and for all we know, Sartanius could be wrong.

The issue is, if people who own the Deluxe or Premium Deluxe versions start purchasing the Standard Version of MSFS 2024, because they see a thread where is says “solved,” and neither the mods nor the staff of Microsoft have refuted what Sartanius says, can we ask for a refund on the Standard Version of MSFS, if it turns out that Deluxe or Premium Deluxe version content does not carry over to MSFS 2024, because we saw a thread that said “solved” in which the solution of that thread clearly states that content from Deluxe or Premium Deluxe version of MSFS 2020 does carry over to MSFS 2024?

This is where it would be very helpful to us, if the MSFS 2024 FAQ is updated to clearly say whether content from Deluxe or Premium Deluxe Versions of MSFS 2020 will carry over to MSFS 2024.

In addition, it’s not enough in the MSFS 2024 FAQ to just simply say that content from Deluxe or Premium Deluxe Versions of MSFS 2020 will carry over to MSFS 2024. If owners of Deluxe or Premium Deluxe versions of MSFS 2020 purchase the Standard Version of MSFS 2024, will we also continue to receive updates/upgrades for free if the content from the Deluxe or Premium Deluxe versions of MSFS 2020 are updated/upgraded in MSFS 2024? For example, let’s say the 787 carries over from MSFS 2020 to MSFS 2024 for Premium Deluxe owners of MSFS 2020. Working Title then enhances and changes the 787 further. Will Premium Deluxe owners of MSFS 2020 also receive the new changes that Working Title makes on the 787, or will they be stuck with a “2020” version of the 787 that never changes? This is important, because the Horizon Simulations and Kuro mods of the 787 will probably use the latest version of the 787 in MSFS 2024. If there are no more changes to the 787 in MSFS 2024, then great. However, if Working Title modifies and enhances the 787 further, Horizon Simulations and Kuro will probably use the latest versions of the 787 from MSFS 2024. This would leave people with the “2020” version of the 787 that isn’t upgraded (because the 787 only carries over to MSFS 2024, Premium Deluxe owners of MSFS 2020 won’t receive any further ugprades on it for free), unable to use the latest Horizon Simulations and Kuro mods of the 787.

I do hope that the MSFS 2024 FAQ can be updated to address these questions, so people like me can make the right purchase decision (yes, as an owner of the Premium Deluxe version of MSFS 2020, if the 787 carries over to MSFS 2024, and I continue to receive free updates of it if Working Title modifies it in MSFS 2024, I am just going to buy the Standard Version of MSFS 2024). Thank you.

Like you said, the only thing that solves this confusion is clarification from the devs, and I obviously can’t help there, but I’ll contribute my guess nonetheless.

I bet your premium edition content from 2020 will remain with you, and I can’t imagine that they’d have a separate, not updated version of aircraft that you’d be stuck with if you don’t get the 2024 premium edition.

Yup, that’s what I am hoping. In that case, I’ll just buy the Standard Version of MSFS 2024 if I can keep all the content from my Premium Deluxe version of MSFS 2024 and receive updates for that content as well, if it’s updated in MSFS 2024 (especially the 787).

At the same time, if owners of the Deluxe or Premium Deluxe versions of MSFS 2024, find out that they could have just bought the Standard Version of MSFS 2024 and all their Deluxe or Premium Deluxe content would have carried over anyways, some of those people will probably get angry and start asking for refunds.

Would be nice for them to update the MSFS 2024 FAQ though and clarify this for everyone.

Technically, if you look in your Marketplace and what you’ve purchased, the Deluxe and Premium Deluxe packages are there as purchases in the MS-Store/Marketplace, at least for MS-Store. I don’t own it on Steam, so I can’t say there.

I agree that the question is a good one, but, #justsayin.

Well, the add-ons for Deluxe and Premium Deluxe are not in the Marketplace though. The 787 is not in the Marketplace if you are a Premium Deluxe owner of MSFS 2020.

This just adds to the confusion, especially because they don’t say in the MSFS 2024 FAQ.

They are if you click on the packages in the content manager…

MS knows :eyes:

This is being discussed as we speak.
A statement should be forthcoming.

They said: some developers might opt for a paid upgrade. Maybe they meant themselves.

Thank you @TheSevenflyer! This is really important, glad the MSFS team is aware of it and discussing this now!

It was confirmed that the Microsoft published aircraft on the marketplace (famous flyers, local legends) would have free upgrades.

What isn’t confirmed yet is the deluxe/premium deluxe aircraft

This is a great question and very well put/worded by the OP.

Personally, I agree that the inclusion of the PD content in 2024 (for “free”) for those who purchased that tier in 2020 would make me consider requesting a refund for my pre-purchase yesterday of the 2024 PD tier.

The add-ons (airports and aircraft) in 2020 that comprise each of the higher-than-standard tiers have never been part of the Marketplace, nor purchaseable separately. As such, it doesn’t seem that it should suddenly happen that those add-ons are treated as Marketplace purchases.

Furthermore, although we haven’t gotten any details yet, one would assume that the directory structures would be separate and so having the add-ons for 2020 would not carry over into the same official store directory.

I did read that in 2024 you may be able to purchase individual planes from the Marketplace if you only want a plane or two from the higher tiers, so that might mean that those plane WILL be treated as Marketplace add-ons in 2024. All told, it will be good to get official clarification.

And if it is not included, what is stopping me from copy the folders from the official folder to my community folder and port it to 2024 this way?

For the 787, this may work, up to the point where Working Title modifies and updates the 787 in MSFS 2024, and then your Horizon Simulation and Kuro mods of the 787 will be broken. Most likely, the Horizon Simulations and Kuro mods of the 787 will use the latest version of MSFS 2024, so you will need the latest version of the 787 from MSFS 2024.

If the 787 is never modified in MSFS 2024, then I think your Horizon Simulation and Kuro mods will continue to work. But if the 787 is modified by Working Title in MSFS 2024, you need the latest version of the 787, which can only be downloaded if MSFS 2024 allows you to.

I mean, the Horizon Simulation and Kuro mods make the 787 that much better. So I would always want the latest version of the 787 in MSFS 2024.

You are right. But I can always choose not to update and keep it alive in its current state.

As someone quoted before, we have been told, that developers can choose if they charge their updates for 2024 or give them for free.

And it seems like MS is currently discussing if they will give it to us for free or be a developer that charges for updates.

Of coirse i hope they dont go the “greedy” route and grant us free updates on our already purchased 2020 content.

Not if the avionics stop working. You’re depending on Asobo/WT keeping the old avionics in the new sim. It might work, maybe, for a while… but…

The good thing is, it’s looking like some planes may be purchaseable. There’s an image out there where somebody showed the price to purchase the CL-415, which is part of the base package, which, come to think of it, is weird…

Who’s taking the greedy route here? You’re asking for free coding…

BTW, it’s been stated many (all?) the Microsoft / Asobo aircraft will be being upgraded for 2024. We’re already getting a ton for free.

To add to the confusion and perhaps get some explanation from a reliable source I would like to know where does one stand who had initially purchased Standard Version but later added upgrades of Deluxe and Premium Deluxe from Marketplace. Now I do have a 787( From Upgrade of Premium Deluxe) and if I get Standard Version will I get the upgraded 787 of the 2024 Premium Deluxe version or I will get the upgraded 787 only if I purchase FS2024 Premium Deluxe.Hope I have laid out my question clearly.

You have indeed asked the question correctly, the answer (which I mentioned a few posts above) is that the issue is currently in discussion and an answer will be forthcoming.

No, I ask for no coding. I ask for porting my current planes to the new sim - just as promised.
After all, I paid for the premium deluxe content of MSFS

Jorg stated in an interview that there will be a legacy mode to ensure full backward compatibility.

I HOPE that they will provide their updates for free. But I am not asking for it.

I was responding to this statement/question.
