No running though oculus app, everything must be on steam Vr.
First I bought virtual desktop the wireless version. And it connects flawlessly to the oculus quest q as long as you have a fast internet. Then I bought (again) and downloaded Msfs on steam store. Once you are on steam look for steam VR, and run Msfs through steam vr and hopefully VR will work.
