HP have announced that the release date for the new Reverb G2 has been put back till “early November”. I therefore presume that MSFS 2020 will not implement VR support for WMR devices till then as well as they had previously linked implementation to the G2 release date.
Who cares. VR is the least of the issues right now.
Those of us with VR pre-orders might, you know?
I care a lot I paused flying till the VR Update is out
Well, that’s up to you, but you’re missing out on a lot of nice flying.
I don’t think Asobo ever gave a date for having VR. From what I’ve heard from them, it all depends on where progress on MSFS is for the things already out, what hardware is available to even support it, and having DX12.
Update 6 …
Missing VR is the only reason that X-plane is more interesting for real simpilots. MSFS promissed to give it priority. They should be clear about when they will deliver.
So people who don’t care about VR aren’t “real sim pilots”? Please.
I want VR too. 100%. But this sim is just not ready yet.
Even though I have a VR headset with nearly 100 VR games, and I am planning to get a Reverb G2, I can’t say that I’m very concerned about VR for FS2020. Mostly because I know that VR is essentially overrated as a gaming experience (yeah, it’s still cool, but the “wow” factor does wear off), but also because I just can’t see this sim getting anywhere near acceptable frame rates in VR with a fraction of the detail level of the pancake version, even on an RTX 3090. On my 1440p monitor, I have to zoom or lean in (TrackIR) to see some of the smaller text on the G1000 displays, so I can imagine the frustration of trying to make those out in VR, even with the high resolution of the G2.
I have FlyInside VR, which is a pretty decent VR flight sim, but the graphics detail in that game is like a child’s toy compared to FS 2020, and it still does not deliver the best frame rates in VR, even with my i7-10700K, RTX 2080 on an Odyssey+ HMD. You could say that FlyInside VR is just not optimized, since it is still in Early Access, but people say the same thing about FS 2020 too, so take that for what it’s worth.
People are gnashing their teeth about problems now, I can’t imagine the toddler tantrums we’ll see once VR is made available and they find out that it’s not up to their expectations, which are set far too high to begin with. Players will be posting suicide notes instead of bug reports and jumping out of windows n ■■■■.
The best performing VR airliner implementation WRT FPS currently is IPACS Aerofly FS2. I realize that some of the system complexities that are in Prepar3D and xPlane are not yet implemented in FS2 or MSFS2020 so the system complexity is somewhat the same. I think the only graphical lack in FS2 compared to MSFS2020 is the complex clouds. A comparison quick benchmark between FS2 and MSFS2020 is at the runway 22 numbers at LGA which has the Manhattan skyline in the distance - an area that was very densely modeled for FS2. The result for FS2 using their 777 on a nonVR HD monitor is 125 FPS. The result for the same environment using the B747 with MSFS2020 (clear skies) is 58 FPS with MEDIUM settings and 40FPS with ULTRA settings. This implies that there is still some performance optimization that MSFS2020 might be able to achieve but also suggest that MSFS2020 VRmode (where the FPS performance is usually about half that of nonVR performance) will require the use of no higher than MEDIUM settings along with simpler aircraft and simpler airports. One example is flying a C152 out of LOWI (Innsbruck) with Medium settings provides nearly 100FPS on my 9700KPC+RTX2070. This scenario might hopefully produce a steady 45 FPS with SteamVR reprojection.
Perhaps you should wear some glasses, I have no problems with my 1440p monitor
you need a 2030 pc to play this in VR at decent graphics LOL
Flight sims in flat screen is like driving car while sitting in the back seat.
I’m playing a little now on monitor, and I feel like I’m ussing a simulator, and I’m eagerly waiting the VR implementation because this is gonna feel like flying !!!
When I play IL-2 I feel like I’m flying, and I think, OMG, soon I’ll have this but with all the earth available, and with Bush planes, and it’s a really wet dream.
I’m looking forward to this in vr but not until I can upgrade my pc, no way my current setup can handle it.
Ive played IL sturmovik, war thunder, dcs in vr and I love it, flying in vr is awesome. My pc can’t really handle dcs either, I can run it but it’s not very stable but it was cool to check out. Can’t wait to upgrade.
I’ll most likely use it for short flights though where I don’t use ap, long flights I tend to set ap and then do other stuff in the background checking on the flight occasionally and maybe sight seeing from time to time.
I can just picture all the “graphics degradation” topics when they realise they can’t have the same level of graphics and performance in VR.
But I hope I’m wrong. However I personally wish they stop new development and work out the kinks and bugs first. Get everybody up to speed, so to speak.
If they remove Airliners, Turboprops, IFR & Live Weather, they will remove a lot of bugs, and they’ll add those features later, when they are polished …
