None of the RNP approaches to SBFN are working

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

None of the four RNP approaches work for ICAO code SBFN. Only the VOR approach and the visual approach work. This affects all navigation modules for all aircraft models.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

It’s easy to check. Take an aircraft with a navigation system, enter SBFN as the destination airport, and select an RNP approach. If you don’t see the approach at all (no legs displayed), the aircraft’s navigation module won’t (be able to) execute the approach—meaning there’s a malfunction.

INFORMATIONS

I initially reported the bug to Navigraph (link ICAO code SBFN, any approach other than a visual approach causes to malfunction - #7 by NAVData - SID/STAR/APPR - Navigraph). The developer investigated the issue but determined that it had nothing to do with Navdata. The issue apparently no longer occurs in X-Plane (to my knowledge, at least until a year ago, X-Plane also had problems with these approaches in the navigation systems, regardless of the flight model). So the remaining cause is still an internal issue with MSFS.

With which aircraft are you having an issue with ?. If I am not mistaken, not all aircraft are certified to fly a RNP approach so their avionics will not allow to select it.

As DementedCorn stated - not all aircraft are certified to fly it. The selected FMS deck can fly it, but it’s a combination of both the aircraft manufacturer + Garmin, and sometimes you have to add in the nation-state’s aviation agency to allow an RNP procedure leg at a given facility to be flown by specific equipment combination.

Take the new FSR Phenom 300E, for example. But that’s just one example among many.

The RNP approach is displayed (4 of them, two for each runway direction). You can also select them. But then the legs are missing (not showing); direct-to to waypoints isn’t possible, and the navigation module doesn’t display the selected and configured RNP approach. However, the entries are in the flight plan. Ultimately, the navigation module does not execute the approach. So something isn’t working. And the problem does not seem to depend on the aircraft model manufacturer, nor is it a Navdata error, according to Navigraph.

Can you replicate with 1st party aircraft ?
The Bug Reporting Hub is only to report issues for the core sim and 1st party content.

Try it simple in the EFB; this is aircraft-unrelated. When you select an approach, you don’t get the legs, nor do you see the path on the map.

Using the latest, stable MSFS 2024 with the stock navdata.

Thanks, Richard :folded_hands: Anyone can see it in a matter of seconds. Just enter SBFN as the destination airport in the EFB or any aircraft with an RNP-capable flight computer, and select any RNP approach. Then everyone will see right away that something is wrong.

Thank you very much, Richard from Navigraph, for the confirmation and explanation. :+1:

Best regards,

Joerg

Can replicate.

Works with the WU19 airport disabled:
